Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Fruity and citric nose with some barnyard yeast, banana and spice. Brilliant light gold in color with a frothy white head. Hops and Belgian flavors mesh delightfully. Some limes and very clean. Rich and chewy with a bitter finish. A great beer.

Gold-orange pour with a white head. Aroma is sweet, mostly citrus and hops. Flavor is balanced between the malts and hops. Great citrus hops flavor with a nice bitterness at the finish. Very good but not as potent as I expected. Decent alcohol content which is masked very well. Almost sessionable.

This is an interesting combination of an IPA and a Belgium golden ale. The hops predominate, but there is an underlying bready flavoring.

This beer was very good. It reminded me of a slightly more expensive and harder to get version of Bell’s Two Hearted. This isn’t meant as faint praise - I love Two Hearted, common though it may be. A golden yellow with a bright white head that quickly fades to a scummy coating. A light but sweet citrus aroma backed by a good framework of maltiness. Flavor is more hop citrus, and delicious. Mouthfeel is pretty light and not at all sticky. Really good, but I’m not sure it is worth the trouble for those of us here in the Midwest.
