Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

bottle - Pours copper-yellow and mostly clear with a big off white head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is of citrus hops with Belgian yeast underlying it that includes a suggestion of banana. It tastes aggressively hopped. There’s no mistaking the west coast IPA style. There’s some good citrus to go with the crisp bitterness. It’s medium to full bodied and has a long, bitter finish. I’d be curious to try this one side by side with their regular IPA. For me the Belgian yeast was apparent in the aroma, but not much in the flavor where the huge hops dominated.

Bottle. Pour was medium golden with a nice light white head. Aroma was of spicy hops, sweet malt, and light grapefruit. The flavor held a dominant citrus character balanced nicely with mellow, well blended hops. The body of the beer was medium light and very drinkable. This was one of the better IPAs I have had.

Bottle 22oz. - Poured light honey color with medium white head. Aroma - Yeasty barnyard scent along with grassy citrus hops. Flavor - Has this barnyard/wet hay taste mixed with grassy/resin hops. Palate - medium bodied beer and has sticky texture. Decent carbonation with bitter finish. Grassy and somewhat dry hop taste lingers for a long time. Overall - I prefer the original IPA version over this. This beer has a funky taste that is not entirely bad but just different than original. I also think alcohol stands out more in this IPA, seems more like 8 or 9% ABV.

Golden pour with a moderate white head. Aroma is sweet and yeasty, a little fruit and spice. Flavor is slightly sweet, spicy and with a bit of a hop bite. Very drinkable and another winner from Stone.

Pours a clear, light-to-medium golden from the 22oz. bottle: Great white, foamy head retention and mildly carbonated which helps to relase sharp aromas of tangerine citrus and other tropical fruits, green fresh hops. Tastes of chewy bread dough, pine sap, white grapefruit, and pepper. Pale malts and yeast play within a lightly textured sweetness and mild bittering finish. Drinkability: Delicious. Rebuy: Yes. #243 on 20122009, DG.

Another good one from our friends at Stone Brewery. Clear golden color. Aroma is mainly of floral hops. Taste is pretty much the same with a little citrus. Good stuff!

Location: Bottle drank on 12/18/2009 from Whole Foods, Arlington, VA

Aroma: Citrus aroma, can’t place which citrus though.
Appearance: Clear golden appearance, very little head.
Flavor: Hoppy yet somewhat sweet.
Palate: Light-medium body, with some carbonation.
Overall Impression: I like this beer a lot - I like the hops flavor, but it the belgium part of it makes it easy to enjoy.
