22 0z Bomber poured into my snifter produced a good fingers worth of tan head that settled to a thick lace. The body of the brew was a some what hazy reddish brown Aromas of pine and grapefruit are up front but the sweetness of the malts are well present as well Flavors of this brew somewhat remind me of DFH 120 sweet and barleywineish. Along with the pine hops to keep it from being overly sweet medium body with enough carbonation to keep it interesting This is a great drinking brew. I will be sorry to see it go as well as the brewery. I always enjoyed Stone Coast beers. Hell of a beer to end their run with though. Cheers

Wow no one else has rated this? I had it on tap at the GLB a while back and from my notes it was a dominating powerful super hoppy IPA. They did a great job increasing the robustness of this to a double IPA. I dont know if i’ll ever see it again, but I’m damn glad I asked what that 1260 tap was!

Stone Coast 1260 Triple IPA review notes Bottle from Kyle (Pamola) on BA. Reviewed 1/22/09. S.N. HopTulip glass. A: Pours a beautifully hazed and mysteriously dark and opaque reddish brown color that sucks light in and doesn’t let go. A 2 finger tannish colored head builds to the rim of the glass and sticks around for a little while, leaving sticky streaks and rings of lace is it recedes into a thick cap. Loving the darker color and the head is still amazing even with the age on it. 4.5/5 S: Very barleywine-esque, but still leading hop forward in the aroma. Surprisingly pungent pine and shaved orange zest hops melds with thick and sweet smells of dark caramel, toffee, and dark grain bread dough malt sweetness. The balance is great and the hops are still alive in the aromatics despite the age, which is fairly uncommon in my experience with aged DIPAs. Very nice. 4/5 T: Again, much like a hoppy american barleywine at this point. Still, the level of hops are still surprisingly fresh and flavorful for a hoppy beer brewed in ’07. More pine and citrus fruit rind is balanced by a soft but darker malt sweetness (see descriptors above). The bitterness is present and biting, but also pleasantly soft (only 67 IBUs according to the bottle). This is the best aged DIPA I’ve ever tasted. 4/5 M: The mouthfeel is on the fuller side with a soft level of moderate carbonation. The consistency is sticky sweet with a touch of dry bitterness and a pleasantly warming alcohol presence left lingering on the back of the throat. For an aged 10% ABV DIPA it finishes surprisingly soft and smooth. 4.5/5 D: For a high gravity beer weighing in at 10% ABV this one is quite easily drinkable. The balance between big hoppiness and lots of malt sweetness is superb and there’s only a slight touch of booze to keep it warm and pleasant, nothing at all harsh or out of place. Too bad I’ll never get to try it fresh, but as is it’s a very nicely drinking aged DIPA. 4/5 I’ll pour a sip on the curb for stone coast brewery, I really wish they didn’t go out of business. If their other hopped-up beers were anything like 1260, I would have loved to try more of them. Drink it now or continue to let it age in the fridge, should hold up for a little while longer with no problems.

22oz bottle courtesy of Scottie. This is one dark IPA. It pours a deep, hazy brownish amber, almost completely opaque, with a two-finger cream colored head. The retention and lacing are excellent. The initial smell is full of fruity hops with whiffs of apricot, grapefruit and oranges, and lots of piny resins as well. There is also a heavy malt sweetness in the background. Big, full aroma. The taste is just as big with the dominant citrus hops up front giving way to the huge biscuity malt backbone. The pine hops come back in the end with a sticky, resin-filled finish. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and very thick for a DIPA. Carbonation is good and melds well with the resin stickiness of the hops. This is a big, complex DIPA yet the alcohol is extremely well hidden and thus drinkability is still pretty darn good.

Excellent

Pours clear, dark amber, with ruby hues when held to the light. A beige, tight, head of a half inch rose up and left some smears and dots of lacework on the way down. A solid skim coat on the surface remained for the duration. Aromatics are heavy with malt-laden grapefruit and pine. Toffee, caramel, figs, and fresh leather under floral citrus and spruce. Warming alcohol brings up the rear. On the thick side of medium bodied. Chewy and tacky. Quite smooth and creamy. The pallet is malt-forward and well integrated with resinous pine and grapefruit zest. More leather, dried figs, caramel, and a sherry note for complexity. Bitterness is firm but not harsh, and the beer is quite dry for the style. Finishes with warming alcohol, drying bitterness, and citrus zest. Very much in the Barleywine realm and hands down the best Stone Coast beer I’ve ever had...Too bad it is thier swan song...

22oz bottle shared courtesy of Josh. Bottle lists this as a 8.5bbl batch, so I’m glad I got to try this one! Poured a medium to deeper amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of fruits, dark fruity, toffee, caramel, and light citurs. Tastes of caramel, dark fruity, citrus, and lightly earthy. More sweeter than bitter and reminded me more of a barley wine vs. IIPA. Alcohol content well hidden.

Pour is clear dark ruby brown with a sticky thin tan head...smell is hoppy, but not overpoweringly so...some nice citrus and pine notes with hints of wet cardboard...the taste is strikingly sweet with toffee and caramel at first, hops come in with a medium bitterness toward the finish and the finish is still sweet with toffee and caramel and the flavors go well together...
