Commercial Description:
Brewed after Stone Coast's flagship 420 IPA, 840oz (that's 52.5 lbs) of hops were used. Dry-hopped with Liberty, Mt. Hood, and Tettnang whole hops during 5 weeks of conditioning. In addition whole Chinook hops were added after filtration. Surprisingly well-balanced, and gets better with every sip.

Had two bottles at different times. Good color. Taste was not too strong but quite hoppy. Alcohol hidden in taste and texture. Hope to try again soon.

Had this twice. The second bottle I had was substantially fresher than the first, and am going off that rating. Dark copper/orange color with a nice lasting head. Some sediment floating around. Aroma of orange, tangerine, some earthy herbal hops and pale malts. Nice soft hoppiness creates a pleasant fruitiness that has a good amount of orange, softer citrus, and a nice herbal finish. Nice moderate malt adds a great balance. A soft herbal bitterness lingers on the tongue. Pretty decent drinkable stuff.

Bottle: Thick chewy/yeast brownish copper color with a thick head. Nose of lemon and orange peel, bright citrus and pale malt. Flavor is thick and balanced, nice malts, light dry hops, finishes bitter, long malty sweet tail. Good.

A big thanks to mkgrenwel for this via trade. 22oz Bottle pours out a hazy amber topped with a cream off white head. A great aroma of floral hops along with some sweet caramel. On the tast more sweetness and you guessed it more tasty hops. This was a nice 2IPA.

Bottle: Pours a hazy orange amber with a nice beige head. Aromatic with citrus hops and bits of floral. Flavor is hoppy enough with caramel malt and a lingering citrus trailer. Thanks BuckeyeBoy.

(22 oz. bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Just doesn’t cut it...Pours hazy darkish amber with one finger of off-white head that recedes to a thin layer. Aroma is fairly strong pine overlain with wet dishrag/blanket, maybe some hint of grapefruit rind. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth but lightly pebbly with a bit if stickiness in finish. Nice persistent rings and sheets of lacing. Flavor kind of falls short with fairly heavy pine with an off sort of quality of wet dishrag which pretty much wrecks it. Some light caramel and perhaps light rock candy underneath but malt flavor is hard to find here. Pretty much one-dimensional and it’s not a very good dimension. Some bitter grapefuit rind. Medium-heavy bitterness from fore through finish. Bit of a letdown - outside of Allagash the number of big beers produced by Maine breweries is few and far between so was hoping this would measure up a bit better. Geary’s 20th Anniv. IIPA was better.

Thanks to hopdog for sharing this... Appears a dense, dark amber with a small white head that fades into a mild collar, spotty lacing, some yeasty fallout, and tiny bubbles rising to the top. Smell is slightly oxidized, orange zest, caramel, and a dash of cocoa...in an IPA? Taste is of the mentioned aromas with more standout bitter orange zest with caramel, vanilla, cola, and cocoa. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, zesty, spicy, yeasty, and bitter.

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark copper with a fizzy foamy white head that looked quite billowy and left lots of intricate lacing. Moderate fine carbonation. Resiny hops compete with sweet caramel malt for suprmacy. I’ll call it a draw. Some floral and light citrus as well. No alcohol noted. Fairly aggressive bitterness grabs you up front, not especially hoppy, just bitter. Sticky and resiny hops on the finish. Strong enough malt presence to keep it somewhat in check. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight resiny stickiness on the finish, with a little maltiness adding to the stickiness as well. Nice soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, a servicable enough IIPA, but a little lacking in brightness and subtlty.
