It had huge hop aromas of citrus and spice and the mouthfeel gave you that big hops blast that finished with a nice combo of bitterness and sweetness. Sammy (4062), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

White creamy head on a grapefruit colored body. SIgnificant lace. It’s unquestionably fresh, but the aroma is funky. It’s very bitter, but also offset with substantial malts. I taste grapefruit, but also lots of hops squeezed together.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2007 Tap at Hop Devil Grill-Oak Aged: Pours a slightly hazy amberish copper with an off-white ring for head. The aroma is sweet fruityness with lots of apricot notes, a light hop hint, and backed with candy-like characeristics. Extremely bitter flavor. There’s not much hop presence or quality, rather just an astringent and assertive bitterness. With wamrth it has only subtle candy/caramel malt background notes. Apricot notes are so subtle, and even after being oak treated there’s hardly any sweet qualities to this IIPA. The finish is long, harsh and extremely dry bitterness. Although the flavor lacks depth it still has a surprisingly decent body. A dissapointing IIPA overall. Glouglouburp (2881), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 15, 2007 Boston EBF 2007. At the EBF this was described as “aged in American oak”. I suspect it’s not usually the case therefore this might a slightly different beer than the one described in other ratings.
Cloudy golden body topped by a very small white head. This one is pretty well balanced. Well malted body, slightly roasted sweet malts with a rather intense caramel taste. Lots of hops, and I mean lots. Complex hops character moving from floral to citrusy to pine-tree. Bitterness in the medium-high intensity. Barrel aging was not apparent at all, no wood/barrel flavour to be found. Very very good so far but looses points for the alcohol presence. I would have guessed 10%. That 8% is about as well hidden as Oprah Wimfrey behind a telephone pole.
