Commercial Description:
The beer mimics the strong, dark stouts so favored by British expats living in the Caribbean Islands during the late 18th century. Brewed with roasted barley and English hops. It's denoted as a "reserve" beer because it's been flavored with oak and dried cherries in selected small batches then "reserved" for special occasions.
Editor's Note: If you had this beer in bottles, you had the Jamaican Stout. This is a draught-only beer.

Any first impressions?
-A sheet of head shrouds the near-opaque black.
-Bountiful bourbon laces the sweet cherries and creates vinosity in the nose.
-The muscular bourbon sweetness is ably linked to the juicy cherries and dark chocolate in a definitely outgoing flavor profile.
-The smooth carbonation serves the luxurious maltiness perfectly.

What if you dig deeper?
-Some roastiness garnishes the palate.
-A bright alcohol sparkle precedes a wooden dryness.
-BBQ sauce and red wine are curiously evoked by the aroma, making this a meat-loving strong stout to my tastebuds.
-A nice barrel-aging experiment for strong flavor lovers, which happens to be almost absurdly eccentric for the conservative Maine brewing scene.

On tap at the brewpub.

On tap in Bethel. Pitch black pour with tan head and good lacing. Sweet milk stout aroma. Plum fruitiness with maybe a little sweet chocolate.

Strong roasty aroma has some berry-like fruits and chocolate notes. Opaque, dark, black body is topped by a decent off white/tan, fine bubbled (nitro?) head that recedes slowly to a lasting cover with plenty of lacing. Raisins, chocolate, plenty of roasted malts and some ginger-like spiciness in the mouth coupled with moderate bitterness. Medium body with fairly prickly, sharp carbonation. Sampled on tap at the Extreme Brewers Fest 2006.

Tan regular shaped, small bubbled head covers the black pour. Fruity, sweet nose hinting at blackcurrant and anise, bready and espresso-like. It develops a rather harsh woodyness that blends in the coffee to detract from the otherwise enjoyable fruitiness. Smooth palate, medium-full bodied, yet with up front carbonation that leaves a drying bite. Not the most focused in the category, but adequately complex.

Sample at EBF 2006. I believe this was served on nitro...at any rate it has a small dark but lasting dark head atop a jet body with decent lace, solid IS appearance I guess...bit of spicy character, baked fruits and burnt chocolate in the malt nose...the body is very sweet, thickly chocolaty-caramelly with a harsh ginger undercurrent that took some getting used to but eventually worked ok....full, milky, lightly carbonated mouthfeel, fairly dry at the finish. No great shakes as an Imperial stout, but not a bad experience.
