Commercial Description:
Evocative of the beautiful colors of a New England autumn, say World Series season, this beer is deep amber in color. It is lightly hopped and extremely enjoyable as a lingering roasted character finishes this medium-bodied lager. Raise a glass to America’s favorite past-time and New England’s favorite pitcher.

Fading off-white head covers the cloudy medium brown shade. Immediately yeasty, almost belgianesque nose travels through earthiness before settling upon safer caramelly grounds. It kinda fails at procuring the expected toastiness, stays hesitant, does not quite attack the fruit plate and just does not seem very undertaking. Unclean example that certainly lacks the polished german savoir-faire.

12oz bottle. Poured a medium and cloudy amberish / brownish color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roasted and toasted nuts, caramel, and earthy. Tastes of toasted caramel, roast, and earthy. Thinner tastes and thinner body.

Poured a translucent brown with a frothy white head. Nose was malt and sugar, but very subtle. Flavor was very grainy with a touch of chocolate. Finish really highlights the biscuit nature of the beer, but is a little weak and watery. This was drinkable, and likely a good session beer, but certainly unremarkable.

Copper colored, metallic, almost alcoholic aroma. Weak and thin bodied for me, flavor is subtle, flavors do not stand out at all for what I expected. On par with Magic Hat and Sam.

Pretty decent effort. Spicy, earthy hops and a nice caramel malt body. Slightly metallic and "dirty" tasting. Reminds me a bit of Sam Adams Boston Lager. Maybe more of a fall beer than a summer.

Located at a liquor store in Brookline, MA. This beer pours a clear dark amber color with a medium thin light beige head that retains pretty well. Sweet malt, brown sugar and caramel in the nose. Medium body with a rich malt flavor, along with some hops for balance. The finish is sweet and lingering with caramel malt aftertaste. Light tingling hops on the tongue as well. Straightforward and average in all respects.

(Rating #1059)

My Bottom Line:
Clean bready maltiness offers scant sweetness but mostly contributes towards the body’s chewiness. Hops support, but are characterless and forgettable. This Dunkler Bock is not nearly as impressive as most of their other products.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam protects the copper hues.
-This is cleanly brewed, but entirely unmemorable.
-The soft carbonation lets the ample body shine, but there are so few flavors, it’s hard to get attached.
-A fruity nudge is not clearly defined.
-The linear flavor profile (overly simple maltiness) is its major downfall for me.

Bottle; no date.
