1/21/09 From the bottle. Aroma is grassy, not harsh, with a light caramel background. Appearance is clear gold with a very well maintained white head. Flavor is sourvsemi-earthy citrus hops forward, with a light watery sweetness in the background. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a medium carb texture. Overall, not huge, but big enough to typify the style.

From 22 oz. bottle into tulip at brew pub. Clear amber color with medium off-white head. Good lacing remaining throughout. Very hoppy - pine/citrus and bitter through the finish. Review is of last half of bottle as the first pour included a slight aroma of bleach. This from a respected brew pub - I did not complain, just let it sit awhile. I will say it dampened my excitement immediately for my first taste of Stone IPA. Overall very enjoyable - Cheers!

Bottle. This would pass for an imperial IPA in most cases. Stronger in taste than most of that classification. Strong, fruity-hoppy aroma. Tastes rather fruity but extreme bitterness on the back end. Light color. It reminded me of the West Coast IPA, which I think is nearby.

Bottle: Definitely slight pine and citrus smell. Nice dark amber color with off white head. Very citrusy with an intense bitter finish. I’ve never have been a big fan of extra hoppy flavor, but I ’ve gotta say I really like this one.

Fresh hop aroma of mild pine, grapefruit and other florals with caramel malt in the background. Beautiful apple juice color with a copper hue and sediment particles are suspended. Lots of action with an off white head. Resin flavor of well balanced mild pine and fresh grapefruit with some sweet tea and caramel flavor in the background. Medium bodied, resinous, crisp carbonation, and has an alcohol warming throughout. A session IPA for hopheads very tasty and well balanced overall.

Very tasty and damn good IPA, one of my favorite in it’s class. Stone may not do much, but what they do know is IPA and this is as good as it’s bigger ruination brother.
