afireinside96 (410), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 28, 2008 12oz bottle served in a Duvel tulip. Pours an orange splashed gold color with a tight white head. Very fruity and citrusy on the nose with a nice malt sweetness to back it up. Nice balanced flavor with some peach and citrus notes. For all of the dry-hopping they talk about on the bottle the head doesn’t last very long. Smooth and very drinkable. Finishes dry with some lingering bitterness, but not too much. Good stuff
JCB (1001), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 Pale orange pour with a nice luminescence at the center. Big frothy head, booming floral hops in the aroma, Cascade and maybe some Chinook? Delightful, just like you’d expect from SoCal masters like Stone. Caramel malts are initially detectable in the flavor but this one is really powerful in the hop department, with the dry-hopping contributing estimably not just to the scrumptious flavors but to the balance of the brew. Sessionable as hell, and compares favorably with high-level quaffers like Two Hearted. satan165 (105), River Grove, Illinois, USA Aug 26, 2008 more easy going then stones reputation would lead you to believe. hops are certainly on the attack, but its hard to believe this is 70 IBUs. still, very dry and more floral then strictly bitter. an excellent showcase of the style no question, world class. however, this doesnt toe the line between IPA/IIPA as much as two hearted does (despite the similiarly high ABV for the style) mistersinalin (267), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Aug 26, 2008 Sure, when I was in San Diego, I didn’t get a chance to try this. Now I find it in Wisconsin? Very hhoppy goodness. If it wasn’t so darned expensive, I’d have it all of the time. hughie (2194), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Aug 24, 2008 Bottle from BSF, GBBF ’08. Coppery gold with a white head. Sweet piney hop aroma. Sweet malts in the taste with golden syrup, balanced by grapefruit and intense concluding hoppiness. Classic. wmubronco1992 (105), Coldwater, Michigan, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle - Dark honey color. Thick white creamy head. Excellent lacing. Tremendous hoppy/grassy aroma. Earthy flavor with loads of grapefruit with similar mouthfeel. Seriously dry finish. This is right up there with Bells Two Hearted as the best IPA’s I’ve tasted.
