Big time juniper, pine, peppery dryness. Intense in aroma and flavor, body is very nice. Totally filtered, yet I really think the flavors will meld together nicely with age. I have to pick a few up.

Clear ruby red-orange pour. Very thick dense light tan head. Some stuff floating around. Very fragrant with lots of spice. Bitter flavor with lots of spice...cinnamon and nutmeg. Fruity malt in the background. Bitter alcohol finish.

12oz. pours dark brown with tan head. aroma has got some ginger and molasses. mouthful is crisp and creamy with the gingerbread having the biggest influence. A lot of flavors going on... very complex and yummy. finnish lingers and adds to the complexity.

This is my new favorite spiced ale, overtaking Unibroue Edition 2004. Beautiful chestnut color, and a delightful melange of spices in the nose. As to the flavor, I can detect sage, and juniper berries in the forefront, and chestnut, and caraway seed in the background, along with pears soaked in chocolate/toffee, and some fig/date/raisin in there, as well. There’s also a noticeable citric/grapefruit character imparted from the healthy hopping which rounds out, and dries the palate enough to keep this intensely flavored ale from becoming cloying. The body is slightly syrupy, but not too heavy, and the finish is endless. If spicy beers are your forte, you owe it to yourself to check this one out. It definitely is what the spirit of a true holiday ale is all about.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Central Market in Mill Creek, WA. Pours a very dark reddish-brown. Aroma: Herbs, gingerbread, and Tootsie Rolls. Same as the aroma, with hints of roasted malt and chocolate. This beer is complicated, but I like it.

Pours a reddish brown color with a decent sized off white head. Herbal aroma and flavors with sage being the one that really stands out to me. Just a slight bitter finish and the alcohol is very well hidden, I didn’t realize it was 9% until I read it here

From a 12 oz bottle purchased at Stone. Aroma is full of spice, like a Christmas tree and ginger bread cookies in a blender. A deep ruby color, almost brown with a thin, dense tan head. Thick pour that clings to glass and has nice lacing. Juniper berries come through first followed by the roasty/chocolaty malt, before the sage and caraway take over. Thick and chewy with lower carbonation. This would be fantastic with a hearty holiday meal and should improve and mellow with age. I’ll open my other bottle next Christmas.
