yespr (6162), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 From tap at Stone Bistro, as Double Bastard French Wine Barrels. Pours hazy brown with a lacing tan head. Dense wineous aroma with a dense caramel presence. Smooth and very grape fruity flavour. Dense caramel presence. Mild spiced too. Warming finish. BBB63 (3767), La Porte, Indiana, USA Dec 4, 2007 2007 PP SAF: Deep amber with reddish highlights, small head and some lace, oily legs. The aroma has notes of tannic wood, spicy and resiny hops, caramel and toffee, earthy and a tad phenolic. The taste has sharp bitterness over lush layer of sweet malt. The finish is equal parts spice and wood. The mouth feel is aggressive and biting, warming and sticky. A good brew but I think I like the regular version better. (With this rating I am among the top 5 raters of Stone, I surprised myself) goldtwins (3721), Nesconset, New York, USA Jan 3, 2008 Tap @ 2007 Strong Ale Fest. Poured a slightly hazed dark amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was piny and malty with dry woody notes. The flavor was a mix of pine and sweet malt. Some vanilla notes with wood. Medium-full body. bu11zeye (3628), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 2, 2008 (Draught) Pours a lightly hazy amber body with a tall long-lasting beige head. Aroma of caramel, bread, citrus, vanilla, and pine. Flavor of hops (citrus, pine), caramel malt, and vanilla. This beer has heavenly goodness!
