Feb 21, 2009 Bottle of the 2009 vintage on 02/20/2009. A cloudy amber color with a foamy off-white head. Peach, apple and grapefruit aroma with a fresh hop finish. Unlike many barley wines the aroma does not give into the high abv. Smooth caramel, dry, and bitter, with a nice long finish with a touch of sweetness. This one is young but very enjoyable.

Feb 20, 2009 Bomber, pours an amber color. Caramel aroma. Nice sweet taste with hops. Has a thick feel. Quaffable alcohol not noticable.

Feb 18, 2009 Definitely will put hair on your chest. Extremely bitter. Sunset orange in color. Citrus-like in flavor, like a pink grapefruit. Worth trying for barleywine enthusiasts.

Feb 17, 2009 On tap at Toronado for Barleywine fest ’09. 2009 vintage. Amber color with a nice off-white head. Aroma and flavor are not too unlike Arrogant Bastard - sweet dark malt and piney citrusy hop nose. Like the bastard, hop character is outstanding. Malty, hoppy, flavor with citrus and alcohol. Fairly full mouthfeel.

Feb 14, 2009 Pours a cloudy reddish orange with a substantial head for something above 11%. Great bittersweet blend of citrus hops and caramel malts - slightly grassy on the nose. Huge hop presence in the flavor of this one, as well as a bit of candi sugar to offset, and it’s hot! There’s no shame in the amount of alcohol in here. Bitter hops overpower some ripe fruit notes, and you’re left feeling every bit of the 11+% abv. Not crazy about the aftertaste - the bitterness lingers with the alcoholic punch in the face for a bit long. Great when you can offset it with food, though.

Feb 13, 2009 22 oz. 2008 bottle. Beautiful medium amber color. No head, no lacing to speak of. Nose of apricots and honey, caramel and sweet hops. Sweet malt and fruit taste, definite alcohol presence, not cloying, but a bitter finish.

Feb 13, 2009 Fresh bottle of 2009, one of the extras sampled at the Sam Smith tasting at Blacklick Wine and Spirits on 2.5.09. I remember having the 2007 version and it not having much hop. This one is waaaaay different. Pours dark amber with a small head. Hoppy and fruity aroma with caramel malt and candi sugar notes. Malty and sugary flavor like most barley wines, but the hop presence is dominating. Not bad.
