Even at a year old the alcohol is a bit overbearing. Behind that lays topffee, citrus, tobacco, fruit. Long lasting bitter orange rind finish. Probably shouls have sat for a year longer.. but waiting sucks. tjthresh (1781), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Hazy amber orange color, with an off white head, and plenty of lace. What a giant grapefruit bomb. In the nose and flavor. And bitter as hell too. Tasty though. A bit of candy sweetness up front. Medium body with medium carbonation. Balanced finish. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve had this. I need to start getting this for the cellar. ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 16, 2004 Bottle. Amber color. Head is slow to form but musters up to make a small white head that diminishes to an edge ring. Decent lacing. Big sweet malt nose. Caramel aromas. Smooth mouthfeel, medium to full bodied. Very malty up front with a decent hop finish. Caramel seems to predominate the initial flavors. Very drinkable for being bottled in August. sneagrams3 (1762), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 1, 2006 Spring 2006 bottle. Slightly hazy orange body, head is well retained, thin with small bubbles. Strong WC hop aroma, lots of citrus, pine, resin, sweetness and alcohol noticable. Taste is lively hops, balanced sweet malts, alcohol well masked. Malts are pretty sweet but balanced for a barleywine, some caramel flavor in there, slightly buttery. Body is very soft and approachable, but probably a little thin for the style. Solid stuff. blipp (1751), Newark, New Jersey, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 14, 2004 A great copper amber clear color. A nice mode white head. A very strong licorice aroma, sweet and strawberry. very nice indeed. A very bitter hoppy feel, deep roots of trees are there. Very, very hoppy. I like it, its a solid deep body without the natural licorice comparison, i like it, cause it stand on its own two feet. Alot of hopps, but a sick ass background to back it up.
