(11/3/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Escondido. 2007 vintage. Hazy orange color. Aroma full of malt, caramel, honey, sherry, some fruitiness and some alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with some wood, vanilla notes, caramel, honey, sherry notes, some fruitiness and some bitter hoppiness in the finish. Full-bodied. Not my cup of tea.

Bottle from Kegs & Barrels in Plano. Pours a nice copper/orange with very nice off-white head. Aroma of strong malt and strong hops. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, lots of hops, strong. Mouth feel is heavy body with low carbonation. Overall, excellent beer...

Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a small bit of head. Looks pretty thick. Nice evenly balanced aroma that has a stiff hop character, but is complimented by a rich malt background and a good deal of alcohol. Thick, sticky palate. Floral hop twinge to start, slightly spicy malt heat finish. Nice BW, hops not too overpowering, overall well-balanced.

Pours an absolutely beautiful dark clear ruby red amber with a thick off-white head. Aroma is is malty with a hint of whiskey and bourbon. Taste is extremely malty with a ton of hops and notes of caramel, butterscotch, honey, dark fruit, plums and vanilla. Sticky, sweet and syrupy - just glorious on the palate. Bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy. Has a prominent, yet, not overpowering presence of alcohol. Great lacing and head retention. A world class barleywine. Highly recommended!

Aroma is always huge. Ages well for a few years. Hops mellow as this seems to be a pretty hoppy barleywine when fresh. Aroma of molasses, caramel, pine hops and sweetness. Flavor is big, thick and rich with hops over the smooth caramel malts and sugar. Lots of alcohol on the finish, very hot, I prefer older bottles.

Newer bottle 2009 I think. Pours an unclear hazy orange brown with a large dense frothy creamy off-white head, clears up to a clear glowing red, beautiful. Dry piney cotton candy light caramel aroma, not all the impressive 7.5. Flavor is the same, thin creamy milky taste, super piney, no citrus, light caramel, some cotton candy, scorchingly bitter 7.5. Thin body, a bit milky with a medium full mouthful, large but subtle carbonation.

Apple red color with no head. Sweet malty aroma with some alcohol. Actually a little light on the palate. Malt up front but resiny hop finish.

2007 release 22 oz bomber. Poured a reddish copper color with a nice size head. Aroma is complex with hops, caramel sweetness, brown sugar, and some biscuit. Flavor is just as complex with only a slight alcohol warming but is incredibally smooth considering the 11.26%. Stupid me only bought one bottle now I know for next year to horde it like a squirell gathering nuts for the winter.
