Flavor was sweet with fruit and caramel, and finished with a hop bite. Full body with soft carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. SoLan (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 28, 2006 2006. Clear amber. Surprisingly large, dense, off white head. Looks dangerous. Nose of cotton candy, caramel, poisonously pungent piney resinous hops, rich malt, dark fruits, and subtle alcohol. Same flavor, loads of hops nearly balance the sweetness. Complex. Alcohol is more pronounced accenting the flavor and body nicely. Full, smooth palate. Excellent, even better with a few years, I’m sure. drowland (1418), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Refreshingly smooth and drinkable for the style but not as complex and spicy as I’d hoped. fredandboboflo (1417), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 27, 2008 Bottle, 2008. Aroma of prunes, plums, raisins, rich malt, vanilla, alcohol. Flavor brings no surprises. Still a monster nearly a year into its life, and the malt could certainly develop (and eventually overtake the alcohol that remains) for quite a while longer. Although I dont believe this beer has reached its peak, still not bad at all right now. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 21, 2009 660 ml bottle. Light copper colour. Clear. Medium-sized white head. Rich caramelly aroma with crisp grassy hop aroma. Sweet malt flavours. Typical of strong American barley wines. Great balance between hops and malts. Texture is soft and cuts throught the sweetness. Bitterness is rather strong and lingers a long time. SuzyGreenberg (1408), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours dark amber with slight haze and a little head just around the edges; malty aromas w/ sweet hops and some stale fruit; flavors come off stale as well with some spice and fruit mixed with the big hops; texture is thin with some alcohol burn; IMO, not a very drinkable BW at this point; not exactly harsh or anything like that, just not my type of BW as it was missing the sugary flavors that i love; i love stone, so was sort of disappointed with this one iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 9, 2005 22 oz bottle (winter 2005 release [11.26% abv], fresh): clear, glowing ruby-orange. A thin white head bunches at the edges of the glass. Thick, sweet malted caramel aroma laced generously with pine hops and fresh grapefruits, but lacking the freshness or hop intensity that I was expecting. Rose petals mix lightly with orange hops and sticky, bitter alcohol. A distinct resiny quality wraps this one together, perhaps this will get better with a little age, but it wasn’t to special right now.
