Big cookie dough and biscuit malt aroma. Spicy and pine/resiny hops in the nose. There is good balance between sweet malt and bitter hops though. Flavour is malt dominant, cookie dough and bright hops. Alcohol is really apparent in this one. Fairly bitter finish. I could do without the rambling diatribe on the back of the bottle though. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA

The flavor is pleasent: big and hoppy, like Bigfoot, with a nice musty malt sweetness that really scores points. Really good for being so young. Cornfield (4961), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 21, 2005 2005 Bomber: It poured a deep copper color with a modest creamy, cream-colored head. Some tiny bubbles continually crawl upward through the brew at a snail’s pace. The aroma is a very sweet malt with some floral, herbal, and orange hop smells squeezing their way out at random intervals. The ale is thick and chewy with an alcohol bite. The flavor is mainly sweet malt balanced with an earthy hop taste. The latter’s bitterness, along with alcohol, kick in for a long dry finish. Not bad or overbearing for a 11.26% ABV (as opposed to 2004’s 10.06%) barley wine. I’d like to try this when aged a year or two. JPDIPSO (4926), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 5, 2005 Lightly hazed amber color with a smaller dense beige head. Sweet grapefruit and pale malts dance above the glass and urge my to stick my proboscis a bit farther in the glass. Light sweet malt and rather biting hops with a grapefruit acidity. Nice warming finish. Better than the earlier vintage I have had - at least IMO. jbrus (4883), Delft, Netherlands
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Bottle@Home. Aroma of grapes, apples and malts. Orange/amber color, beige head, good lace. Flavor is like chewing hops with oranges, light malty and sweet. Too alcoholic. Overall a bit over the top. BückDich (4854), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 6, 2004 Shimmering auburn color with a nice persistant white head and light lacing. The aroma is very spicy with a great balance of hops (amarillo?) and some sweet candi/caramel malt. The flavor is also well balanced with only the feeling of the alcohol coming through, not the taste. This is a very smooth barleywine, I like the changes they've made to this beast.
