Huge thanks to Glougouburp for sending me this fantastic brew! 2007 vintage. Pours a glowing orange with a one inch head. Aroma is very malty with a hint of hops. Honey, marshmallows, soft fruit, citrus, and chlorophyll. The taste is very well integrated. Sweet malt, honey, caramel, vanilla, then it runs dry and spicy. Very, very good. Thanks Dany!

From the bottle this beauty pous a copperish orange with a nice foamy white head and lots of lacing. Aroma of orange, spice, alcohol and hops. Taste of the same along with sugar, caramel and a little floral - a savior after a loooong day at work. This barley wine was just what the Dr. ordered. Is there a Stone brew out there that isn’t fantastic? Haven’t met it yet.

600ml Bottle shared with Pyrozoid and French Tickler. Hazy semi clear with a bubblely off white head. Aroma: hops, orange zest, spruce, grape fruit, mint and green bananas. Flavor: hops, pine, peppery, alcohol and grass. Palate: medium to full body, average carbonation, creamy, oily with an alcohol, hoppy peppery finish.

bottle 22oz: 2009 release: Poured a murky amber with a small head. Hops smells with grapefruti and pine. Tasted sweet and malty with extreme hop flavor and bitterness. Lasting bitterness...long lasting! Medium body. Overall really enjoyed and would not mind letting one of these age and try later.

{pours a cherry wood brown, clear. Tan Head. Good lacing. Smells of strong bitter hops and a significant amount of apricots. Delightful. Flavor is of bitter, sedimentary hops. Less apricots here, but an intense sweet nut finish. Another nice surprise from Stone Brewing Co. I have yet to be dissappointed by them. No... I have yet to not be amazed.

Old guardian mmm. This is the 2009 batch. I don’t care what anyone says this is a fun, hoppy, big smash your head in barleywine. I love it. Huge hop profile when it is fresh, got some malt going on as well, but the hops are big and bigger. Some citrus in there, of course hops, malt and a bread flavor. With it being so hot I also notice a strong taste/smell of alcohol every so often. This one will do very well with age. I have had them aged before and wow, but I wanted to be fair and give a rating when this beer is as hot as it should be.

On tap at Redbones: Orange with no head, brown sugar aroma, with dark fruits, thick body, full mouthfeel, starts very sweet, tastes like oranges and then becomes bitter with a sweet sugar aftertaste, yummy.
