Commercial Description:
So called because of the immediate ruinous effect on your palate. 100+ IBUs. Bracingly bitter. Thick, pungent hop aroma. We would say that no hops were injured in the brewing of this beer, but that would be a massive lie. In fact, the words "Stone Ruination IPA" are what older hop vines use to cause little hop vines to quiver with fright and lose sleep at night . We at Stone honor the brutal massacre of countless hops with this "Liquid poem to the glory of the hop!" Paganism at its best!

Picked up at Rileys in madison on recent trip pour was hazy at first, orange with off white head aromas of hops, flowers, clover and citrus taste is full of hop biting bitterness that makes you want to comb your tounge, with a slight malt presence just not enough for my likeings but truely a good IPA

For the hopheads indeed... double/imperial IPA? Hardly. Whereas the malt presence is noticable and alright, it’s basically just a BOOT TO THE HEAD of hops. Pretty tasty, but nothing compared to fantastically balanced DIPAs.

imported to NZ and not in optimal shape. not bad though, the hops have subdued a bit I think, especially in the aroma. The flavour is still very pungent and the bitterness is big, but not devastating.

Tap @ The Shepherd & The Knucklehead Pub. Light golden pour with white head. Floral hoppy aroma. Got to love 100IBU+ ipas, malt need not apply for IIPAs IMO. Another solid beer from stone.

Bottle @ GBBF 2009. A clear golden colored beer, with a thick white head. The aroma of fruits, like citrus/pine. There are some spices with a lot of hop bitters. The taste of bitter hops with many fruits, citrus/pine and mango. There are spices like pepper in the back. The aftertaste is bitter and spicey.

11/08/2009. 12oz. Beerstore.co.nz. Stewed jelly-like barley malt dominates, like the IPA, and again there is good hop bitterness but the hop flavour and aroma is muddied - and soapy as all buggery - behind the oxidised malt. Good but time has been the ruination of this once great beer.

355 ml bottle. Pours a light clear cooper with an adequate course white head. Loads of citrus and floral hop aroma and a very slight hint of alcohol. Medium body with a silky mouthfeel. Initially the balance leans heavy to the hop side then levels out a bit into a clean rather smooth finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle at the Rake with the Stone guys. This is the first really convincing double IPA I’ve tried. The hop strength goes without saying but rather than stripping the palate it installs itself somewhere in the back of the head, allowing you to enjoy a nice balanced beer... and maybe another one...
