Aroma is not overbearingly smokey, but certainly present. Base porter is roasted and silky with nice smoke qualities. Personally, I’d like more smoke, but this is a well balanced beer. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 23, 2009 Updated: Nov 15, 2009The aroma is of chocolate, dried apples, beech wood, faint sulphur, coffee, seaweed, sugar and spciy/herbal hops. Smooth taste with a lot raisins and beech wood showing up. Sweet. Very faintly smoky. Decent bitterness. Poor lacework. Some seaweed sneaking in. Pleasant. A bit sour. Medium bodied. Residual sugars, beech wood and caramel in the finish. A bit dissapointing. Thanks a lot nearbeer! gnoff (3576), Göteborg, Sweden

Dark red to black color (dim lighting), smallish tan head. Mellow smoked and sweet scent. Sweet, alochol, raissin, smoke taste. Medium, though dry, mouthfeel. Medium bitterness. Expected a "bigger" beer than this, but not so challenging, more subtle and drinkable. TipsyMcStager (946), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
