| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2008 The smoke is almost too subtle... I almost feel like the word smoked should be taken out of the name... Allow it to be a surprise rather than an expectation... As an expectation i find a bit disappointing, as a surprise i think i would have enjoyed this more... This is rich and creamy with very little carbonation....Everything about this beer is subtle, which in a way is refreshing in a word of oneupsmanship and super aggesiveness in terms of flavor... I thought my sample was a bit off, but given the other reviews im led to believe nothing was wrong with it... Overall, i genuinely liked it, but i would have liked a bit more aggresiveness flavorwise, especially from a brewer like Stone.... brewski519 (432), Morrisville, North Carolina, USA

Roasted malt and a light hint of coffee at first smell.
Initial flavor had a smoked coffee overtone. Has a very subtle richness to it.
Very creamy and low carbonation.
Another great beer by Stone Jsawyer (286), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 29, 2008 Bottled. Pours very dark brown, thin mocha-cream head with nice lacing. Aroma is smokey roast coffee and some citric hops. Flavor is subtly smokey with overtones of bittersweet chocolate and roasted coffee malt, and nutty. Palate is nice and not too carbonated. Another good Stone. Cybercat (819), Georgia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 28, 2008 This porter comes out of the bottle a deep, opaque sable, nearly black, with a thick, fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is thick and smoky and has hints of coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and what seems like wheat. Flavor is like well-roasted coffee with a subtle sweet undertone and hints of chocolate and molasses and even a touch of nutty taste. Texture is sublimely smooth but has just a bit of an edge. heynik1885 (53), tonawanda, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 27, 2008 Dark brown pour, with a huge brown head that never seems to go away! Some lacing on glass. Smell is chocolate, coffee and strong burnt malt. Tatse is same with a burnt sweetness and a bit of alcohol nothing overwhelming. Good character on the tongue. Well balanced beer. Just what a expect from SBC. jstraw (776), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 23, 2008 Black with good, creamy tan head / Mild, roast, smokey nose / Medium body, creamy, a little residual sweetness, with good balance and finish / Flavors of roast barley, roast coffee, smoke (subtle), and bittersweet chocolate / An elegant, balanced smoked beer that I would drink again. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Pours dark brown nearly black with a small to middling tan head. Intense smoky aroma hits the nostrils like a freight train and clears those sinuses straight out. Taste is primarily coffee with the smoky flavors coming through on the back end. This beer is not messing around. tarheels86 (808), Washington DC, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2008 1 Pint bottle. Pours a pitch black with a small, creamy tan head. Initial taste is almost like pure cream or half&half. Pretty awesome lacing. Aroma is milk chocolate, water. Palate is moderate and smooth. Tastes are dark fruits, milk chocolate, cream, buttery toast, a hint of roasted malt, but I am missing the smoky parts. Aftertaste is quick and then disappears. Well balanced. Much better warm. A drinkable, smooth porter but not a knock-out.
