Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Dark brown color with tan head. Smoky aroma. Roasted malt flavor with chocolate and coffee flavors. This beer was just ok for me.

Got this beer some time ago in a trade. Pours a black body with red hints at the edges, and a huge beige head. The aroma was light; earthy notes, some smoke, toasted malts and light chocolates. The flavor was a full and nice porter, some toasted malts and a creamy body, but also a nice smoked aspect, especially in the finish. Very nice.

Bottle. Deep dark mahogany pour with tan head. From the nose to the taste, what struck me about this beer was its hoppiness. Wow... never had a porter this hoppy. For my taste buds, it obscured the more porter-like elements (which were all there--lactose, smoke, peat, chocolate, malt), and I didn’t think this was smoked enough to merit the "Smoked Porter" label, even if they don’t claim it to be a rauchbier. All that said, it was a very enjoyable brew; just needed some expectation management. Not to mention that I had a very meaty/smoky Alaskan smoked porter directly before... so quite different.

22oz bottle, purchased somewhere in Boston for $5. Consumed during the month of its best before date. Pours very dark with minimal head. Nice lacing though. All malt aroma of medium strength. The first sip gives an initial peppery sensation. The peppery sensation remains throughout. Nice malty flavours, with some coffee tastes thrown in the mix.

Bottle from some liquor store in Rehoboth Beach DE. Pours deep brown with a nice light beige head that dissipates to a retentive ring. The aroma is very nice, smoky peat, dark roasted malts, nutshells, and cocoa powder. Medium bodied with average carbonation. This beer has nicely balanced flavors of smoke, dark chocolate, tobacco, and coffee. Just enough bitterness to keep this in balanced, with average attenuation. Finish has a slight milky flavor. I need to kick my own ass for waiting so long to try this. Great beer, and I don’t like smoke beers. I bet this would kick ass on cask.

Deep brown red pour with a large tannish thick head. Smoke and metalic nose. Taste of smoke and coffee, quite light in palate.

first you can smell the aroma of smoke, and more smoke, the frothy, head sits atop a black,as night lake of beer but i was suprised this was very light in body, soft and creamy, with little to soft carbonation, and left a long finish, of a smoky fireplace behind i had this beer with smoked mozzarella and salami.

Almost pitch black pour with a foamy light brown head. Aromas are light chocolate and toasted malts. Flavor is very smooth and a bit creamy. Roasted malts, chocolate and a hint of coffee. This actually reminds me of a a beer in the realm of a dry stout. Nice beer.
