Commercial Description:
A rich, dark and delicious porter with chocolate and coffee overtones accented by a subtle smokiness from just the right amount of peat smoked malt. Unlike a rauchbier, the "smoke" in Stone Smoked Porter is an ELEMENT of the character rather than being THE character. -- Greg Koch, Stone Brewing Co.

Pours out a dark brown color with a light tan head, leaving pretty good retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted with a little bit of chocolate, some caramel too. Some caramel in the taste, I definately get roastiness but the smokiness is very subdued. Medium bodied with fairly high carbonation. Pretty easy to drink beer, I’d probably have it again, but wouldn’t seek it out.

I have to say that I think this beer is one of the easiest-to-drink beers I’ve ever had. Mild but noticable tones of smoke, chocolate, and vanilla with a fine creamy texture. A lovely smooth texture. The more I have this beer the more I love it!

I was worried about this one... with stone’s flair for the overdramatic in their hops, I was afraid that they would go overboard with the smoke in this one. Not true at all. I really don’t get much smoke in this one at all. It is a great porter though. Pours opaque brown with a thin head. Aroma is a bit smoky, with lots of chocolate malts in it. Flavor is of a rich porter. There is a bit more hops in this one (as expected from stone) which is a welcome addition. Stone really doesn’t seem to do bad beer. As you drink this one, you get more of a woody smoke towards the middle to end of your drink.

Pours dark, opaque brown with a tan head. This beer has a rich, roasted Malt aroma and taste. The flavor also has a nice smokey quality and a light hop finish. I enjoyed this on draught and it was creamy and smooth. A Very Nice Beer!

Pours dark brown with a good light brown head that lasts. Aroma of sweet malt, flavor of chockolate and caramel, nice finish. All in all an excellent porter.

22 oz. bomber poured deep ruby red/black with a one-finger brown head that left a lattice down the side of the glass. Smoky malt aromas as expected, also a hint of coffee, caramel and hops. Very nice coffee and chocolate flavors were most evident on the tongue, and the smokiness lingered in the aftertaste. Full bodied, richer than most porters. I had high expectations for this, and it delivered.

Bottle. Aroma of roasted (maybe lightly smoked) malt, coffee, bitter chocolate. Flavor has a little more chocolate, a little more smokiness/charredness, as an interesting subtle contrast to the standard porter flavors. Good stuff.

Bomber. Dark brown pour with nice thick creamy head. Aroma of campfire and faint chocolate. Taste of malt, burned almonds with a nice smoky finish and faint hops.
