For a guy that usually does not like the flavor of a porter, this was an eye opener. i was trying to find the right taste this one has and found it when i read the description, peat. its so unusual but really adds something new to the flavor to make it almost a smoked stout flavor. great porter that will have me trying new ones, thanks.

Dec 22, 2009 This beer gets better every time! Pours a sexy black with a thin, tan body. Aroma is chocolate with some burning wood and maltyness. The body is very full, almost pushy. Lots of smokeyness in the flavor with dark chocolate and a hint of anise. Finish reveals the hops for the first time and leaves the drinker very pleased. This is an excellent beer and my personal standard for porters. I’m so glad Stone has made this so widely available.

Dec 22, 2009 Rich dark black color with a tan fluffy dense head. Aroma is sweet, smokey, peat, some nice roasted malts and burnt caramel. Flavor is nice and smooth. Great level of smoke but not meaty. Roasted malts, bitter coffee and dark bittersweet cocoa. Always consistent and flavorful.

Dec 22, 2009 Dark, nearly black pour with a small tan head. Aroma is malt, sweet dark fruit, and a little smoke. Flavor is a little sweet, malty, dark chocolate, and a slightly bitter finish. Not my favorite style, thus the only above average rating.
It would be great with a cigar.

Dec 21, 2009 Aroma: Smoke, oak, malt.
Appearance: Dark opaque color, medium head fades to thin layer w/ decent lacing.
Taste: smokey, coffee malt, chocolate, touch of hoppyness
Palate: medium carbonation, creamy mouthfeel, lightly dry.
Overall: This is a really good beer, my favorite porter thus far. I love the smokeyness and balance of this beer. At $3.99 it’s an awesome value!

Dec 14, 2009 Growler. The quintessential smoked porter. Pours a dark, black hue with a full, beige head. Deep, rich aroma with strong roasted malt character. The taste follows in a similar vein: burnt malts and strong flavors of coffee and dark chocolate. Some mild hop bitterness. Silky mouthfeel and medium- to big-bodied. Aftertaste lingers for a while with that burnt malt flavor. Really good stuff.

Dec 8, 2009 Color is an almost black dark brown with a tan head.The aroma is a rosted coffee and chocolate.Flavor is dark chocolate, rosted coffee, a little smokyness with a hop bite.The finish is a little bitter.My favorite stone brew.

Dec 6, 2009 22oz bomber. Pours slightly-opaque black, long-lasting off-white head. Slight lacing (though my inappropriate glassware may have an impact on that...). Aroma is nicely smoked. Not over done though. Flavor: smoky, toasted malts, chocolate on the back end. Goes nicely with some dark chocolate. Overall: not a beer that separates itself from the pack, but simply exists as a good beer that can be enjoyed nicely from time to time.

Dec 5, 2009 A dark almost black pour with a coffee colored head. Aroma is nice and malty with notes of chocolate. Body is lighter and smooth. The smoked character comes through with the malt with a slight bitter taste. Smooth and flavorful with a light finish.
