Commercial Description:
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Draft at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL. Listed as 11th Anniversary Black IPA. Pours a dark brown/black color with a tan head. The aroma contains a very noticeable hop presence, but there are also notes of roasted malts and coffee as well. Love the interplay between the roasted malts and citrus hops in the flavor. Very nice bitter finish too. This was a treat!

Fresh bottle. Rich malt and piney hops dominate. Some citrus and caramel also. Drink this one as fresh as you can get it.

(bottle - 22 oz - 2007 vintage) Sampled as 11th Anniversary Ale. Chocolate pour with a puffy tan head. Aroma is mild citrus mixed with some spruce, hops, and roasted malts. Flavor is lightly roasted at the front with a very nice hop middle blending with some caramel and toasted malts and finishing with a very smooth and floral hop bite. Pretty nice.

11th anniversary Bomber thanks to Lagunitasfan. Pours a dark mahogany color and a nice thick beige head with tons of sticky lacing. The aroma is nice; lots of rich malts, hops, some fruity, almost strawberry notes. The flavor is very nice; dominated by a big malt presence, sweet caramel and lightly toasted notes, some strong hops fill it out. Very smooth and flavorful. Tasty and easy to drink. Lingering bitterness in the finish. Nice.

I tried the other version. The one that has the 11th anniversary picture on it. They wouldn’t let me rate the beer with the other picture, so I feel a little weird about this rating. One of the last bottles at Greens on Ponce.Very nice dark ASA. I was surprised. I was pretty wasted when trying this, but I was still extremely impressed with the dark color. I also loved the balance between the hops and the malts. The beer was surprisingly hoppy to me. I was expecting the malts to dominate, but there was an extremely awesome balance. Very nice palate that is creamy and smooth. I have to say, this is better than most of the Stone beers. I want to try the Self Righteous version and see if it is different than the 11th anniversary edition. Overall, an amazin ASA that has an excellent palate and aroma. Nice use of hops and malts to balance it out. I was VERY impressed with the color.

An old Stone XI Anniversary from my basement. Made me realize how I have gotten away from hops oriented beers. At first it seemed jarringly hoppy but the creamy complexity soon won me over.

Sampled during MN Gathering II in Maplewood, MN, and shared by BDR. From a 22-oz bomber as Stone XI Anniversary, pours a clear dark brown brew with an average sized beige head that slowly disappears to a fine ring. Aroma of citrus and floral hops, some roasted dark malts, dark fruits, roasted nuts and citrus. Taste is medium bodied, hoppy, with flavors of roasted dark malt, some apple, smoked wood and a little alcohol. Finish has a nice hop flavor without the extreme bitterness.
