Commercial Description:
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque strongly carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body. The aroma was sweet and caramel malt. The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish with a strong hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of malt hops vinous and dark malt. A wonderful best in class brew.

#200 Piney smell, frothy head and nice black pour. Good hop notes after 3 months of cellaring. I love the black IPA idea, hops and roast go great together. LOVED IT and i need more.

Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head that disaptes quickly. Aroma of Hops. Taste of hops, hops and hops, a hint of fruit, blueberries.I’m not a hops guy but, this isn’t bad!

Dark brown with mahogany highlights and a substantial medium-dense light tan head. Gorgeous aroma of bright orange peel, fresh field grass, subtle pine bark and holiday spice. Flavor is full of fresh hops and roasted grain with many of the aroma elements present as well. Sweetness and alcohol are well represented in the body, though in perfect balance, along with excellent bitterness that plays out well throughout the long finish.

Bottle. Opaque dark brown with a tan head that lingers a while. Hoppy aroma, with hints of blueberries and apples. Intense flavor of hops and malt with a bit of dark chocolate. Nicely bitter. Big mouthfeel and a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Very tasty.

11th Anniversary Ale Pours dark brown, almost black, but with translucence, and a light brown head. No idea what to expect from a ’Black IPA’ but the first sip was overwhelming--both huge roasted malt flavor and huge American hop flavor. The resulting finish was strangely sweet, raisin-like, with lots of alcohol and acidity. Definitely one of the most interesting beers I’ve ever had, and I intend on keeping a couple of these once-brewed beers in store for a later time. Worth a try.

Dark brown with amber hues. 3 finger light tan cascading head. Excellent retention with thick concentric lacing. Piney hops. Retrograde exhalation reveals a boozy tinge. Overriding piney hop flavor with hints of citrus. Faint influence from the dark malt. Well carbonated. Hops are sharp, bitter, and oily, resulting in a bit of a sticky finish. Hits pretty hard at 8.7%. Great beer for an extreme hophead.

Very deep mahogany/amber in colour, long lasting creamy beige coloured head, good lacing. The aroma is quite hoppy, pine, very green, fresh with some alcohol. The flavour is very hoppy, light caramel sweetness, big fruit bit, earthy, a little chalky, some chocolate. Dry, highly bitter mouthfeel, medium/large body, high carbonation. Finishes very dry, lots of hops, long. This is quite aggressive, quite hoppy all the way through, lacking a little balance.
