Commercial Description:
We re brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it ... Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale ... serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We re certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we re simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When youre good, youre good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this beer is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this beer was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didnt last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldnt be any more. For Us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this beer on a full time basis.. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

22oz bottle pours very dark brown with a big tan creamy head that stays well with lots of lace. Aromas of pine slight grapefruit and some chocolate and burnt notes. Flavor is mostly caramel and pine but there are grapefruit notes, much roast, and slight chocolate hints. Interestingly complex and honestly quite delightful in the mouth. Feels full in body but very easy to drink. Another fine brew that is worthy of an anniversary celebration! Stone never disappoints!! Great!

I don’t do it often... and I’m not proud to say that I do it at all.... but here is another perfect rating. Maybe at another time I drink again and re-rate but I must say it is amazing. Pours dark dark amber/brown. lite brown head. Great taste of something sweet. Aroma is arrousing to the nose. NO complaints at all.

Dark with little to no head. Aroma is of hops but with slight malt nose. Flavor is primarily hops, pine, citrus but the malt provides a hint of chocolate/roastiness. Mouthfeel is full on the tongue with minimal carbonation. Hefty and potent.

750ml: snifter: pours nearly black with red hue...thin, tan head ring. Nose reveals loads of malts, dark and dirty! Cooked, roasted, sugary... some bitter coffee tones as well. The esters hit your tongue immediately, followed by crisp and bitter hops... the body is actually very creamy and coats the mouth. The bitters are available again in the after taste...lingering under the tongue. Warming the brew reveals dark fruits and sugars... very deep and dark, really a complex yet easily drinkable brew!

Bottle. Pours a black color wit a small tan head. Has a roasted malty hoppy aroma with hints of licorice and chocolate. Has a roasted malty bitter hoppy flavor with some weak hints of licorice and chocoalte. Has a roasted malty hoppy bitter finish with a long bitter aftertaste.

translucent dark brown with ruby light shining through under a big, creamy cap of mocha-colored head. Aroma smacks of hops, but that’s just a hint at the flavor. The first taste brings a strong hop presence, but there’s another big flavor -- smoke. Other aromas are peach and a bit of booze. Warms and really opens up, reminds me a lot of Beer Here’s "Dark Hops" but with a little more complexity. Tasty, but it’s a struggle to get through a bomber alone with such strong flavors.

Appearence a jet black tar with a smooth creamy head. 75cl bottle. Lovely aroma of malt chocolate; figs, coffee and licorice. Can taste dark chocolate; caamel, black liquerish, a slight note of butterscotch and vanilla. A really lovely complex beer. The alcohol is heart warming. This is simlar to Arrogant Bastard Ale which I also love. if you also enjoy imperial stouts you would love this ale. I wonder how well it travelled.

great ipa, but this one’s black. piney, resinous, but with a mellow dark malt base. full-bodied and hoppy at the same time
