Stonefly Simon Bagley Stout

Beerfest in Chilton. Dark brown, malty, smooth. Nice but nothing outstanding.

Served on draught at the Wisconsin Micro-brewers Beerfest in Chilton, Wisconsin. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a slow dissipating beige head that has some nice lacing. Aroma of toasted dark malt, some oatmeal, dark chocolate, some coffee and a touch of molasses. Taste is smooth, toasty malt with a good balance of chocolate and coffee character. Finish has a toasted malt aftertaste that slowly disappears. Nice profile for this brewpub’s dry stout.

An altogether enjoyable brew, with a creamy oat nose, mingling with caramel, as it sits deep and dark in the glass with a teasingly effervescent butterscotch head. The first sip releases coca cola, oats, barley and caramel all rolling together with s nicely understated alcohol warmth against a coffee and chocolate base.

On tap at Stonefly. Poured very deep garnety-brown with a nice cap of yellowy-tan head. The aroma picked up lightly-roasted chocolate, coffee, and caramel… sweet overall with a touch of herbal accent.. rather simple, but quite nice. The flavor had caramel and chocolate on the sweet base.. lightly-roasted.. grainy chocolate and coffee on the finish, along with a bit of tea and cocoa.. bitter-sweet finish.. tasty. Lighter-bodied on the palate with OK balance & flow.

Nearly opaque dark brown brew with a light tan head of cascading bubbles. Big roasted malt and light cocoa scents. Nothing complex, but certainly nothing wrong with it. Dry mocha flavors. A touch astringent, but a crisp dry stout. Longer dry roast linger.
