It has a nice aroma of yeast , raisins, and alcohol, though it is only 7%. Full bodied with medium carbonation, the flavor is strongly malty, with hints of chocolate and plums. An interesting double, full of flavor and not too yeasty or alcoholic. Nice. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Feb 2, 2003 Dark reddish brown with full head that vanishes immediately, leaving little or no lacing. Did not seem much like a Belgian double to me. Lacked the expected complexity. Not much malt, overall sense of lactic Belgian sourness. A good enough sour ale, if that was what they intended. But not really a Belgian double. beerguy101 (3972), Newark, California, USA

Nice, I finally got a sample from a non-infected bottle. This abbey dubbel pours a medium brown color, somewhat cloudy. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is sweet, caramel and a touch of cocoa. A medium bodied dubbel. Malts are fruity and sweet, caramel, dates, and brown sugar. Lots of sweet malt flavors all over the place in this beer. Nice smooth taste. Very easy drinking dubbel. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
-------- brown color. Medium head. Aroma is malty. WARNING: Very strong lactic sourness. Possibly infected bottle. Has the character of a sour ale, and I don’t think it intentional. Will need to re-rate. joet (1709), Fulton, California, USA

Very dry, tons of apples and vinegar. Light medium body. This was the dog of the night of tasting with mwsg, BeerGuy101, MrDick and others. mwsf (360), San Francisco, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 25, 2003 Brown. Nice head. Slightly estery, although I didn't get as much in the nose as I expected. Nice malt aroma. This is where the beer went downhill though. Very strong lactic sourness. Based on other people's comments, I think they may have bottled a bad batch. This tastes infected. The result is kinda interesting though. Given the sourness of Belgian Browns, I kept wondering if the flavor of this beer is intentional. Doesn't sound like it is.
