Commercial Description:
A moderately strong Belgian Abbey-style beer. The traditional yeast strain imparts a complex assortment of spicy phenolic and fruity flavors Hints of clove, plum and raisin permeate this rich, malty and full-bodied beer. And its lofty, tan head sits gracefully atop the seductive, deep mahogany nectar.

750 ml bottle, from Eyedrinkale - thanks Mike! Cludy chestnut brown with a mall off-white head that diminished to a ring of bubbles. Aroma of dark brown bread and spice along with fruity malts. Sweet and malty but also lightly tart - molasses and dark dried fruits highlighted by lots of spicy yeastiness and floral notes with hints of lemon and citrus in the finish. Smooth, full body and gentle carbonation. Nice treat from the East.

Pours red-brown with a one-finger head. Color is lighter and head is smaller than I expected. Plum, grape (and their dried counterparts prune and raisin), chocolate, candi sugar, slight leathery/earthy notes in the aroma. The second glass smells like cola. One of the best aromas I’ve run across in a while. The fruits come across more noticeably in the flavor, along with the usual spicy Belgian yeast notes. Big leathery/smooth alcohol taste under the tongue. Earthy, cola-like, and slightly vinegary flavors take over as it warms, backed by the alcohol. An excellent example of alcohol as an integral part of the flavor profile. Finish could stand to be drier. Very easy-drinking, almost, however, to the point of being too thin. Good chilled, but excellent at room temperature.

Bottle vintage date 01/22/02: Deep dark caramel, severely hazy, moderate to large off-white frothy head, sporadic lacing.   Very malty aroma, bready, semi-sweet, plums and figs rounding things out.   Even breadier on the tongue, smooth sweetness, underlying plum and figs... delicious!   Wonderful body, with a well rounded mouthfeel.   Finishes like a weakened Grand Cru or Quad, remains flavorful but not overly assertive.   Subtle and satisfying.   Thanks a ton Mark for this rare treat!!!   If anything, this beer made me forget about my bounced rent check... YAY!

Garnet with beige head. This was just, plain awful. Fruit and malt to the nose. Decent body. Intense lactic sourness in the flavor. Bad.

I would have to say that this is one of the finest beers that I have ever tasted. From its hazzy appearance to its sweet nose, taste and great mouthfeel. This is a beer that I would love to be able to get on a more regular basis.

Pours cloudy dark brown with a foamy white head. Huge, thick body. Tons of bananas in the aroma. Flavor is carmel, bananas, and almond. Very smooth.

Draught: Guest Beer @ Northampton Brewery: This one pours an opaque lighter brown color. There was almost no head to it at all. The aroma mainly a caramel sweetness, along with notes of raisins and plums. The taste was akong the same lines, except with a touch of clove to the taste. A hint of bitterness also comes through at the end. Quite nice!

This is a fantastic beer. I think the lable describes it best as a nectar. The fruit of alot of busy worker bees making and packaging a world class beer.
