Commercial Description:
A moderately strong Belgian Abbey-style beer. The traditional yeast strain imparts a complex assortment of spicy phenolic and fruity flavors Hints of clove, plum and raisin permeate this rich, malty and full-bodied beer. And its lofty, tan head sits gracefully atop the seductive, deep mahogany nectar.

Thick, solid brown appearance with an ample caramel colored head. Rich aroma of raisen cake, maybe some vanilla and leather. Dense in body with a quick finish. Flavors of chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, malt.

spritzy candi sugar and dark fruit aroma, reddish brown with a dark khaki head, thin and cherry sour with a nice raisiny finish, the amount of sourness makes me think this bottle had gone bad, when I bought it it didn’t seem to have been taken care of too well, I’ll have to hunt this down again and compare ratings

12.09.04 750ml bottle. Prune juice brown pour with moderate tan head of fine bubbles. Aromas are fruitcake, plum, vanilla and chocolate, deep and winey. Flavors follow suit with uncomplex tawny port notes and plenty of raisin, chocolate, light nuttiness. Good stuff with nice balance, not too sweet.

Mahohony colored beer with a nice light tan head. It has sirupy aroma’s of fruits, some medicinale hints and a touch of vanilla. The taste is on the sweet side with accents of malts, brown sugar some spices and green acicdity. The afthertaste ends with medicinale touch and green bitterness of hops.

Pours a dark ruby brown with a good head that lasts awhile. A little bit of melon in the nose, but not a whole lot else other than a slight bit of almost chocolate malt. The flavor is nicely complex, although there’s an unusual tartness involved that I’m not sure I like or not. It does improve as it warms, but the tartness doesn’t go anywhere.

This is my first abbey dubbel so i didnt know what to expect. Could smell this immediately after opening. Nose is nutty and light malts. Rich brown with red tint and a thin film of head. Has a sour taste of a unripe plum and golden apples along with pear and caramel syrup. Flavor also is bitter with yeast and a moderate malt level. Vintage date of 11-12-01. Thanx to Eyedrinkale for the trade.

Bottle. Dary red color with a small but dense head. Huge aroma of dried fruits, banana, chocolate and alcohol. Taste is like red wine, candy sugar, tart and spicy. Lively mouthfeel.
