This bottled brew marked 2/4/03 and brought to the Three Floyds Birthday Gathering 12/27/2003 poured a small head of light brown colored finely sized bubbles that left behind an opaque hazy around the edges black colored body. It had a malty aroma and a tingly bubbly mouthfeel with a smooth mild malt bite. The flavor was only noted as complex and nice. A very drinkable brew I noted.

Hazy brown hue with small tan head and some lace. The aroma hinted of caramel, toffee, pine, citrus zest, and toasted malts. There is a grapefruit twang under the layers of malty goodness. The finish has a bitter and slighty smoky nature. The mouthfeel is smooth and easy to drink, crisper than most dunkels. A solid brew, not big yet sublime. Enjoyable.

This one makes me wonder why beer guys don't like lager. THis is so big and malty and has such wonderful lager restraint. The sweetness is of a rather spicy variety, which is great, as it keeps it from getting heavy and lumbering--there's none of the raisiny ponderousness found in other double bocks. It's not as if this is the only one that avoids it, but it is certainly among the best. Thank you very much, PsychProf.

Very nice black color, small foamy tan head that lasted for a decent amount of time and left a slight lace.Malty sweet aroma, with a dried fruit scent coming through.Oh yah very nice flavor,Malty and chocolate with a light fruit accent and hops. The flavor lasts ans lasts, the malt in this one is fantastic and well balanced with the other flavors.Just a bit more carbonation then i would like but it doesn't detract from the rating numbers i'm going to give it.The alcohol manages to stay fairly well hidden with just a few peeks out from behind the corner to let you know it's there. The brew is remarkebly smooth and very drinkable. The after taste is malty and hoppy with a nice light chocolate.I wish i had a few more of these, but atleast i should Thank PsychProf for letting me try this great brew.

Dark red-brown body with a thin tan head. No lacing.
Big, strong malty aroma. Some sweetness to the aroma too. Fruit aromas come out as the beer warms.
Malt, coffee and some raisin in the taste. Alcohol is somewhat apparent. Simple but big flavors.
Great dopplebock mouthfeel and finish.

Lovely garnet brown. Rich but quickly diminishing head. Aroma is roasty, lightly fruity, and sweet. An initial sour bite on the tongue gives way to molasses sweetness. Notes of plum, raisin, and coffee with a slight vinous edge. Slightly thick and very smooth on the palate. Mild carbonation. A delicious dopple.
