I found little aroma, a confused palate and a bit weak flavor. It has some fruityness and earthy yeast and malt flavors but lacks something. Just not an exciting brew. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 12, 2003 This seems to be a Dunkel, and not a bock or doppelbock, as the description claims. Caramely, roasted aroma lifts from the dark brown, tan-headed body. Flavor is a rich medley of rich, sweet caramely malts that subsides to roasted bitter notes and a dry finish. A very well-done dunkel, or, a very well-done atypical bock. TheBeerGod (3171), Newport News, Virginia, USA

Seemed flat from the nose but this was far from it. The body with rich, creamy and sweet. Smooth malty finish. This was also a nice surprise this evening. Schroppfy (1813), Ohio, USA

Quality is written all over this. Warms to perfect balance. Bottle-conditioned lagers RULE! CaptainCougar (5530), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 12, 2003 Pours a dark amber color with a good light tan head. Aroma is very malty with some bock yeasty nose. Pretty smooth palate is mostly sweet with a well balanced bitterness in the finish. Lots of caramel maltiness throughout. A pretty good bock that hides its alcohol well. raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA

Big malty, smokey, toasty, lightly hoppy nose. Smells very rich and fresh.Thick mouthfeel, just a touch, too much, carbonation. Sweet(toffee, raisins, rye bread)malty, flavors. Just a litte acidity(bottle conditioned lager)from the yeast,is not very pleasent. Finish is smooth, bready, with huge toffee notes,a trace of smoke and oxidation. Not extremely complex, but damn good,in my book. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA
