The aroma felt a bit off at first. The taste make up for it due to rich cocoa taste, texture is very velvelt like. The Alcohol is hi\idden but does present itself quite nice. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 10, 2007 You know, when this first came out I ran to the store and grabbed a bunch of them. Now I have none left. Why you might ask? Because it’s not all that good and I traded them all away. When I think of this all I think about is fizz. The head was fizzy, the carbonation was fizzy, and the finish was slightly fizzy. Don’t get me wrong, there were some good roasted flavors and some chocolate, but not enough to save this beer. I will say this, the barrel effect was right on,nice lite wood character. I prefer the regular Fat Dog myself. goldtwins (4083), Nesconset, New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 1, 2007 750 ml bottle. Pours a black cola color with a thick foamy brownish beige head. Aroma is chocolate malty with hints of vanilla and a tinge of oaked whiskey. Taste is malty with chocolate hints and a small flavor of oaked whiskey. Disappointed in this one as I was expecting a lot more barrel aged flavor. Maybe age will improve this one. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 24, 2007 Bottle from Stoudt’s. Pours onxy with a big dark tan head that reapeears with every repour, ending uo looking like the remnants of a chocolate milkshake at the finish. The aroma is roasty dark patent malty, with some roasty notes, plus some dark chocolate, almond, slight rauchy, and molasses notes. Medium to somewhat dense palate heft, with flavors of initial roasty malt, mid-palate chocoff, molasses, slight spiciness, and some tobaccoey notes. Notable complexity, good balance, and a wonderful accompaniment to a Partagas 160 cigar. kmweaver (2471), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Updated: Oct 22, 2007765mL bottle, courtesy of hopdog. Thanks, Steve! Pours a dark black core with thin brown edges; medium, fluffy tan head with great lacing. Plenty of milk and dark chocolate in the aroma; toasty vanilla and bourbon. I think the common thread of this beer is that it’s a well-handled BA imperial stout, but not as big or dense as the best around. Medium mouthfeel: nice chewy chocolate and bourbon core, alcohol is well-hidden; lively carbonation (plus the oatmeal); nice vanilla and oak character throughout. Medium, dark chocolate finish. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jan 19, 2007 I had high hopes for this beer, but no, it is not a very good beer, unfortunately. The aroma is sparse, only a light hint of dried chocolate. There is a light hint of raisin and chocolate on the palate. Hardly any oak comes through. Honestly, it just isn’t that big or flavorful. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Sampled from drewbeerme, big thanks for sharing this big beer. .... In this dog fight we pitted this the barrel aged fat dog against the regular fat dog to finally see who is bigger, meaner, and of course fatter ... The Fattest Fat Dog. Well one look at the two bottles and the BA looks fatter and more stretched out, but the regular is bigger than a brewery, seeming to crush it with its fat belly ... we can tell this will be a tough fight. ....... On this side we have the barrel aged, after getting warmed up it comes out with the rasins, brown sugar, and of course the alcohol to the nose ... not to strong and not taking much of lead over the regular. The flavors don’t knock out the competition like barrel aged usually do. This dog goes for more subtle jabs with molasses, chocolate, malt, dark fruits, bourbon and the alcohol warmth in the throat. With solid and not overdone punches, this dog isn’t meaner but bigger and fatter ... thus the champion, The Fattest Fat Dog.
