Commercial Description:
A rich, deep golden-blonde lager, Stoudt's version of the German classic style includes a generous amount of honey for added flavor notes. The full-bodied Mai-bock beer is significantly stronger than Stoudt's Gold Lager. Brewed with the finest German 2-row malt and a subtle, yet noticeable touch of noble hops, this year-round beer was traditionally made to cut through the chill of early spring.

On tap at the brew pub. Poured a medium amber color with a small off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, and light citrus. Tastes of bread and caramel. On the sweeter side. Thinner and somewhat of a watery body.

I think this has aged a little while before my sampling: Pours a hazy copper orange with a thinly lacing off-white head. Aroma of rich caramel malt with some butterscotch and a hint of noble hops. Body starts lightly malty and sweet turning dry and peppery toward the finish. An interesting and flavorful brew, but could use a little more balance.

Pours cloudy amber body with a long-lasting, sticky head. Sweet malty aroma with some bread and raisins. Sweet malty flavor foloowed by a smooth raisin cinnamon bread taste. Really good bock.

Lightly sweet, subtle honey caramel taste, gets a little dry at the finish. OK.

Pours with a one-finger head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Low carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is malty. Starts with semi-sweet raisins, finishes mellow with just a hint of bitterness, the higher ABV is not noticeable. $2.05 for a 12oz bottle from Oliver’s Beverage Albany, NY.

Not being a big fan of bocks, I find myself comparing them to the Ayinger...Suprisingly enought, this stacks up pretty well.

Pours transparent copper with almost no head. Sweet malty aroma with a slight citrus hop in it. Well balanced flavor with a subtle honey finish. Probably would rate higher in the spring/early summer. Second bottle consumed 4-17-06. Doesn’t fare any better (way too much honey like character for my taste) probably worse, but ussually stick with the higher score.
