Commercial Description:
A rich, deep golden-blonde lager, Stoudt's version of the German classic style includes a generous amount of honey for added flavor notes. The full-bodied Mai-bock beer is significantly stronger than Stoudt's Gold Lager. Brewed with the finest German 2-row malt and a subtle, yet noticeable touch of noble hops, this year-round beer was traditionally made to cut through the chill of early spring.

12oz bottle. Nice golden pour with faint fizz and head. Looks crisp. It is crisp. It comes on as slightly too malty, as distinct from the honey - which is a really nice touch. Thanfully it’s got enough of a hop presence to keep the body lively and prevent it from overly malty slickness, something that I think would undermine what they’re going for. Solid and interesting.

12 oz. bottle. pours hazy golden color. small white head with decent lacing. Has a distictive honey nose with touches of biscuit. Odd flavor profile. Very sweet with hints of spice, followed by an extremely pleasant rush of hoppy goodness, not overpowering but prevolent. That rush diminshes to an alcohol warmth with some notable sweetness that lingers with a subtle but complex mix of alcohol, honey, and spice. Overall, pretty damn complex and rather delicioso. Definate repeat, one of the better Maibocks I’ve had. Would stand up well with a good spicy chicken meal, and would be enjoyable on a pleasant early may Saturday on the deck.

Dark golden color with a smaller white head. Pale malts, dry honey, light alcohol and mild herbal hops. Biscuit and honey flavors. Plenty of malt in this one. Finish has some more herbal notes and Linger has a dry honey and alcohol bite. A decent spring warmer.

Bottle. Bright orange with offwhite head. Fantastic aroma of fresh grain with some faint fruitiness in the background. Flavor follows-- a really nice fresh malt flavor, creamy, with a slight bitterness coming through in the finish. A bit sweet throughout, but really quite enjoyable.

Golden body barley any head. Aroma is a mix of earthy notes, floral hops and sweet honey malt notes. Flavor had mostly earth notes and was slightly balanced out by a smooth honey notes. It was slightly syrup on the palate. Finished smooth with minimal carbonation. Okay effort.

I think my liking of this style has improved after reading some of my earlier ratings. This poured a clear gold with not much white head. Aroma was pretty light with caramel, honey and fruit. Flavor was of honey and toffee; nice hop finish. Some hints of fruit. Dry finish.

(Bottle via trade with <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=2 target=blank>OhioDad, thanks Scott!) Decent but a little bland...Pours clear slightly orangish golden with a tall off-white bumpy head. Aroma of...really not much - kind of a pale lagery smell, maybe some very light honeyish sweetness and wet dish rag. Mouthfeel on the light side but reasonably smooth. Some decent rings of lacing. Flavor of very light honeyish malt, maybe some slight toffee sweetness. Hint of bitter pine in finish. Kind of needs more oomph.
