Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Bottle. Aroma is sweet grapefruit and malt. Hazy orange amber body, off-white head. I usually enjoy most offerings from Stoudts, but to my preference this is WAY too sweet. The fruity sweetness just does not work with what is struggling to emerge of a bitter IPA nature. Flavor conflict, pure and simple.

Sharp hop bite with a nice alcohol warmness. A bit of pine and sweetness. Good IPA.

Pours a clear yellowy golden with a dense offwhite head, lots of bubbles streaming to the top. The nose is bitterly hoppy citrus. Light sweet malt. A bit creamy. Alcohol and a hint of graininess. Creamy full mouthfeel with moderate to high carbonation. Sweet creamy light malt with sharp hop bite. Very bitter. Citrusy hop flavor, orange particularly. Some alcohol lends itself to the hop bite’s intensity and goes with the malt nicely. Grainy aftertaste is the biggest downside. A bit boozy, but in a good way.

Like the commercial description says, it pours a deep golden color (not especially hazy) with a small off-white head. I found the aroma to be sweet and hoppy. The flavor was less hoppy than I expected, having a more fruity sweet taste, and the alcohol content was apparent in the taste. This is a good double IPA that was different from the others I have tried.

Deep orange pour with a nice, white head. Sweet, fruity, hoppy aroma. Flavor is grapefruity, piney, fruity. Seems like this is a bit of an older bottle, but it’s held up surprisingly well. Would love to try this frech.

Pours a golden orange with a thin offwhite head. The nose was resinous, hoppy, fruity, sweet, citrusy, mild spicy alcohol, malt backbone. The flavor is resinous, chewy, fruity, citrusy, malty, warming alcohol, Northwestern hop feel. Spicy bitterness and warming alcohol on the palate.

Thanks again to the wife. Merry Christmas. Malty Aroma, very clear in the glass with a reddish copper color. Tastes dry like scotch with a mild burn. This ones a little interesting to me. The alcohol isnt as well hidden as I expected. lots of grapefruit flavor in there. Piney and earthy, but yet somewhat sweet. The more I drink the better I like it. More of these would be OK with me right about now.

12 oz into pint glass. Great clear amber pour with a frothy white head that leaves nice lace. Sweet (but not at all too sweet) doughy hoppy aroma thats very nice. The flavor is very similar with a bit of alcohol, but only enough to balance the beer -- superbly easy going for 10.6. Im so surprised right now to see this high of an abv. I was expecting it to be a well hidden 8 percent. Anyways, this is a creamy with medium to minimal carbonation. Overall: this is a really solid IIPA that is so easy going that I would be scared getting a 4/6/whatever pack of it.
