Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Bottle conditioned. Small ivory head that mostly diminished, fair amount of lacing, transparent, fizzy carbonation, and an orange hue. Nose was malty, caramel, sweet and hoppy but not overly so and ditto for the flavor plus IMO the alcohol was very well hidden. Mildly tingly mouthfeel. Medium body. Very, very quaffable, not over-the-top hops by any means and just plain nice.

Bottle 12oz
Bright hazy orange, creamy slightly porous white top.
Rich aroma, blend of clean alcohol and high alpha hops. Slightly creamy bottom.
Medium bodied with clean warming alcohol. Strong hop presence with creamy finish. Good middle of the road hoppy ale with above average clean alcohol (especially for such potency).

rating from several samples in history, 12oz, pours orange with white head. nose is sweet caramel and wet hops pretty odd. flavor isn’t that bitter and really sweet and unpleasent. pnw hops that seem more juicy than anything. the only real good thing about this beer is that you can’t believe it’s 10+% abv.

Dark orange pour with an off-white bubbly head. Floral aroma of hops, resin, caramel, and wood. Oily mouthfeel with nearly no carbonation. Orange, resin, pine, and malt mix well. Alcohol is masked well, only coming out as the beer warmed. More malty than expected, but an excellent IIPA.

Bottle. Poured orange/amber with a medium head. Aroma of citrus, tropical fruits and pine. Taste was tangy citrus and a fair malt backbone. Alcohol was well hidden, but the warmth was there. Nicely bitter finish. Full(-) bodied. If I had to describe it in one word, it would be ’tangy’.

Bottle. Great smells of caramel, pine, perfume, and beef broth were easily noticable with hints of prune, pineapple, pear and a slight winey note. Black pepper followed after it warmed a bit. It had a creamy head, good lacing and it had a unique orange color to it. Taste started off moderately sweet and finished both slightly sweet and acidic. It had a medium body, oily texture and a nice soft carbonation. It’s remarkable aroma makes this beer a re-do.

Pours cloudy with a tan head. Smells of perfume, wildflowers, yogurt and spices. Tastes of sweet oranges, roses and sweet malt.
