Commercial Description:
Stoudt's Double IPA is a strong, full-bodied ale with an intense hop character and deep golden color. This unusual brew is characteristic of the newly recognized style of extremely hoppy and malty ales of American origin. The Double IPA is our strongest beer with an alcohol of over 10% abv and bitterness of more than 75 IBU's. Multiple kettle hop additions and generous dry hopping contribute to the powerful yet smooth and fragrant hop character of this beer. 10% abv.

Bottle. Split with patrickfannon. Pours a slightly hazy orange with small white lacing. Aroma is delightful sweet, citrusy hops. Medium mouthfeel. Taste is well balanced with a sweet finish. I just realized this is nearly 11% abv.... no trace of alcohol whatever.

Cloudy orange pour with no head...Strong hope aroma of pine with a bit of malt behind it...Medium body, smooth carbonation....Slightly creamy mouthfeel...Hop flavors dominate...Lots of malty sweetness balances out the bitterness...Highly drinkable...A perfect DIPA by my standards...Delicious...

Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Orange and amber with creamy white head. Orange hops and medium bitterness aroma, sweeter caramel and some alc also when it was first poured it had a slightly medicinal infected note to it. Flavor is sweeter caramel and alc with light bitterness and bubblegum. Medium and slightly syrupy body. Not bad despite the initial aroma.

On tap at Yard House (West Palm, FL): Intense hops flavor- but amazingly balanced. A little to the sweet, orange candy side, granted, but the alcohol is masked very well. Dangerously drinkable. Will definitely come back to this one again. 17082009 ***Re-rate with a 12oz. bottle: For a DIPA the hops level could be cranked up a bit, and as a result I wish there was more of a lingering bitterness to it. Still, its citrusy sweetness hides any trace of alcohol. Drinkability: Enjoyably smooth. Rebuy: Right away. 13102009.

Picked up a six pack at a local Wegmans as it was the strongest beer there at the time. Pours a deep medium golden with a foamy off white head. Aromas of fruity citrus, and pine with a caramel malty backing with a touch of grain and orange. The flavor isn’t so much like the aromas, as the malt and alcohol seem to take over the citrusy hops. Other notes or some oranges and caramel. Sweet and bitter and maybe a little too sweet with an alcoholic presence. Well, I love DIPA’s but the fact that the malts take over as well as a little alcohol just shows and over balance and not in the way of an IPA. The malts should NEVER take over if your going to label a beer as to what it is supposed to be and in this case a DIPA! Well I guess if your not so much a crazy hop head then you might prefer the constituency. As of one 12oz downed, I’m not complaining about the buzz!

In short: An annoyingly sweet IPA with orange flavoured hopping
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed very fresh the day of purchase
The look: Almost clear golden-orange body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose of oranges, sweetness and some tropical fruits. First striking feature of this beer is how aggressive the sweetness is. Very sugary caramel (more sugary than caramel). I suspect a lot of crystal malts. Hops have a dried fruits (mainly oranges) flavour along with some fresh oranges but not enough. This is too sweet to be refreshing and not round/rich enough to be nourishing. Alcohol is slightly apparent. I don’t remember last time I had it, maybe it was my first. And probably my last. This beer is about as well balanced as my diet.

12 oz bottle. Pours a bright, darker shade of orange. Sweet and fruity hopped aroma, but not overpowering. A good IPA

Rather disappointed by this one. Clear light gold like colored water, taste was ok. Light white head, not alot of flavor....kinda weak on smell.
