| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 9, 2009 As I sit in front of my laptop this morning with the coffee maker percolating behind me, creating that other sweet nectar of life, I am ever grateful for each moment I live and the opportunity it gives me to taste great beers.
Hazy golden orange, a soft puffy cloud of white and creamiscle hues fades lazily under my watchful gaze. Lace clings stubbornly to the sides of my glass while in no time at all, her nose captures my attention. Sweet and sticky oranges, nectarines, mango, cantaloupe, and kiwi mingle together to form a wet, sticky tropical paradise. Freshly cut grass and slick hop oils fill out her beefy profile while cinnamon and powdered sugars are sprinkled hither. My first quaff is sticky with a biting presence of honey and juicy, succulent tropical fruits. It is as if I were holding them in my hands, their bountiful juices trickling down my arm. Just as her nose predicted; melon, orange, mango, and kiwi with sweet cut grass and burnt honey while lemon adds a noticeable bite to her finish, serving to balance her sweet profile. I enjoy IIPAs of all varieties, but there is something extra-appealing about those which are a lip-smacking wet sticky mess. As she warms, my mouth never fully dries. Instead, sticky tropical fruits, slick grassy hop oils, and crunchy honey and toast linger in quaffing harmony. None too soon, I find my glass sadly empty while a huge, satisfied smile graces my lips.
I like them sticky and wet, please. No it’s not the opening line of a porno, but she was so divinely succulent it could actually be a form of porn: beer porn. When each quaff is a veritable assault of the pleasure senses, I can think of no better way to spend 30 minutes of my day, any day. Stoudt’s Double IPA is a winner in my book, and a sure bet for any hop-head looking for a good time. AndyReynolds (288), Wilder, Kentucky, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 7, 2009 Pours a rich gold with thin white head. Aroma is very hoppy and full of sweet malts. Notes of bread, grass, pine, caramel, and dark fruit come out as well. The flavor is more malty than one would expect from a double IPA. It is very balanced though with a nice hoppy bite in the finish. Not a favorite, but worth having again. ScottyP (314), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Golden brown pour with thin white head. Very hoppy/malty with hints of citrus. Bitter piny finish. Well balanced beer for 10.6%. Very enjoyable! noncaloric (629), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 21, 2009 Thanks daknole. Pours clear, dark gold or light amber, medium beige head, good retention and good. Aroma is caramel and alcohol. Flavor led piny a very piney hop flavor surprisingly absent in the aroma, mild caramel malts, a bit of a scuzzy breadiness in the backbone, some weak banana and strawberry esters. The alcohol is very overt, there’s a sense of chemical solvents here. Bitter finish. Medium to full body, penetrating warmth on the palate. Zinister (1207), Houston, Texas, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Pours a hazy orange with floating sediment and a thick off-white head. Aroma is surprisingly mild for a DIPA, but is there of unplaceable hops, alcohol, and pine. Taste is exactly the same. Just not impressed with this, I was expecting more.
