Dark opaque pour with a longer-lasting head. Roasty notes in the aroma and the flavor. Good but not great. I’d try it again, as this just may have been a weaker or aged batch. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA

Pours black with only slight shades of light around the bottom edges. Nice big creamy light tan head. Figgy, dark fruit nose with dark roast malt and a meaty soy like touch too. Nice body, slightly oily and rich with a taste of dark fruits again. Not a ton of oatmeal flavor but the roasty, figgy flavor is nice. Some slight alcohol taste and warmth. Pretty good beer overall. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2007 12oz. bottle. Pours a deep, dark black with a super-thin, tan colored head. Heavy aromas of molasses, roasted malts, chocolate, and hints of coffee. Flavor is of bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, some smokyness, and has a dry, slightly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is very smooth and velvety. I was surprised how well this Impy. Stout was. Well buy again. nearbeer (1860), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2007 12 oz, bottled 9/12/07. Opaque black with a small, lasting head. Dark roast coffee and grain nose has some cocoa and a slight metallic twinge to it. Flavor is big roasted malt: chicory espresso, cocoa, molasses, rum raisin, and slight charred wood, with some grassy-lemon hop bitterness and acidity on the finish. Smooth, heavy palate has some slight tongue tingle and drys up nicely on the end. Quality beer, only complaint from my tastebuds is the Saaz-like hop finish. b33r (363), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Flavor is good and strong, caramel malts, light fruit notes, sweet and creamy. Alcohol is well masked. Chucks66 (84), Beachwood, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 27, 2007 Pours dark brown/black color, pretty big tan/brownish head that disappears after a minute, aroma of coffee roast. Nice rich flovors, chocolate cream, some vanilla and oak flavor. Very balanced and the alcohol is well hidden. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 27, 2007 Pours a dark brown, almost black opaque color into the snifter. A quick inch of tan head subsided quickly. Scents of chocolate, coffee beans and roasted barley came across nicely. Excellent flavors of oatmeal, chocolate cake, coffee and dried fruits. Not as complex or robust as other Imperial Stoudts, but very smooth and very drinkable at 9%. One I would try again.
