Chocolate, vanilla, oak chips, alcohol and brandy, coffee and cream. Very aromatic and warming. Dark, dark black clear with thin tan head. Has some feet to it, too. Chewy and heavy, silky and oily body with medium carbonation. Starts with a lot of chocolate malt. Caramel, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak. Plum and raisins with alcoholic warming. Soft nutty bitter finish with almost cloying sweet end. Dry on the tongue but sweet on the palate in the after taste. Rich and complex and well balanced. Very nice impy stout. emacgee (1881), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 31, 2007 Pours a dark black that allows some light through the pour but not once in the glass. Produces a thin to medium chestnut head. The nose is coffee, dark chocolate, sweet, mild oat and grain is noticeable, and maybe some light citrus hops in the background. Alcohol and java become more prominent with warmth. Coffee and alcohol are very noticeable, coffee bean stays in the mouth long after swallowing and imparts a slight soy character. Warming on the way down. Dark roasted character, and some citrus peel hops. Nice palate, just a tad thin for an impy but still good overall. aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 27, 2007 12oz. bottle - pours black. It’s black even when held up to a light. The head is very small and tan. Aroma is sweet and fruity, with chocolate, light coffee (sort of milk coffee) and hops. Roasted malt of course, also. A little bit of licorice as well. Flavour is quite sweet...maybe the sweetest imperial stout I’ve yet had. The sweetness however quickly dissipates to leave a bitter chocolate/coffee flavour. A little bit of alcohol in the finish as well, along with grains and hops. docsteigs (139), USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 10, 2007 bottle poured into a snifter, color is dark black with little light coming through and a ring of creamy head on the inside of the glass. smells of grains and oatmeal, alcohol, chocolate, lightly roasted, and is on the mild side. I must admit when i saw this bottle on the shelf I thought what is better than an imperial oatmeal with a lab on the bottle? taste is really smooth, light on the pallet, has good malts to carry it with a somewhat creamy texture. really warmed up to this one as i drank it, slight roasted tone comes out as it warms, and the alcohol content is well integrated. craftbeerdesign (754), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Sep 30, 2007 bottle. pours average stout black with little to no head. very sweet malty aromas... medium body, very low carbonation. Malts, caramel and slight oatmeal tastes. This kind of reminds me more of a brown ale than an imperial stout... very sweet. Very drinkable - the 9% abv is very well hidden so watch out.
