Commercial Description:
This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Bottle acquired in a trade with JCB! Pours black and opaque. Aroma and Flavor are a mixture of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. The maltiness is offset by the hop balance. Only issue with that is that I am much more of a malt fan than I am a hop fan. An interesting mix.

Had some really great imperials before this one, so kind of took away from it. Decent brew though. Chocolate and some coffee with roasted malt.

bottle: Pours as dark as the taxman’s heart with a gorgeous tight mocha head that will support a dime. Aroma is like a dried fruit wine (port?) with some bready and roasty tones...excellent! This is a big beer as in the palate. Must be the oats but this is like a bulked up ( in the body) Russian impy. All the great nuances of dried fruits, roast cocoa and malt but it has this big fat mouth feel. Long ’fat’ finish where we get some licorice. Damn fine effort.

Bottle. Pours a brown black body with a coffee tan head. Nice oatmeal body with some rich chocolate and roast y coffee notes. A moderate warming with more roasted malt and bit of toffee and. Dam good.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown cola color with a thin tan head and minimal lacing. A nice chocolate and roasty malt aroma along with some coffee and alcohol. Tastes of coffee, chocolate and sweet roasted malt and then comes with a slightly bitter aftertaste from the hops. Medium body and good carbonation.

Bottle. Black pour with little head. A roasted oatmeal stout with some chocolate and coffee notes barely any hop presence. Was almost thin textured for an imperial stout. Smooth and easy to drink.

Mighty good. Had a glass on tap at the Lucky Dog in Brooklyn. The brew poured a dark black with a thick head. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee. Flavor of chocolate, caramel, coffee, oats. The hops balance out nicely with the malty character. Smooth, so smooth and rich.

Pour from the 12oz. bottle into a pint glass: Roasted barley, sweet caramel malts, dark fruit, grapefruit rind, toffee hard candy, dry chocolate. Smooth finish. Overall a good stout and that’s expected from Stoudts, however I’m not infatuated by it. Could be better. Drinkability: Great drinkability, but just doesn’t compare to other microbrews. Rebuy: Yeah. #126 on 19092009, DG.
