This was a bonus beer in a trade with mcbackus( thanks Matt)The pour is a deep brown, almost black with a 1/2" tan head that rapidly disapates. Aroma was of dark roasted malts, some chocolate with an undertone of alcohol. Flavors were same as nose with some oatmeal and some nuttiness in there. This will be a great cold weather beer as the darkness and alcohol warmed the body and soul. Got better as it warmed to room temp. A great beer, Thanks again Matt. Dark ruby-black with a small dark tan head. Big aroma of roast malt, coffee, anise, and alcohol. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Flavour is sweet to start, with molasses and dark fruit, some bittersweet chocolate, cherry and espresso in the middle, and finishing with bitter and slightly charred & sour notes. Aside from some lack of balance in the finish, I quite liked this. kp (8396), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 31, 2007 Pours a dark opaque brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, dark fruits, mollasses, and hints of expresso. Aroma close to a barely wine. Initial taste is an astrigent dark chocolate, oatmeal and boozy. Then a tidal wave comes in with bitter hops. Palate is slightly uncomfortable with an inbalance of hops and chocolate that seem to be almost rocking the boat back and forth with each other. Palate has some duration and very minor head retention. The brew seemed a little off centered, I might have gotten a bad batch. LtJudge (432), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA

Appearance :Quiet dark, almost black with creamy medium light brownish top. With time reduced to fizz.3+
Nose :Rich potent mocha aroma, dark chocolate with balancing hops. Port like vinenous alcohol. All lovely set up. Pure pleasure to my senses.9- Flavour/Palate: Full bodied , rich slightly dry front with plenty of roast. Bold black chocolate dominates middle. Bold yet not as complex as one might hope for. Warming noticeable alcoholic finish. Good flavours, plenty of character but lacking those hard to spot finishes that make champion brew.7+

On the other hand, the major difference is body. Stoudt’s Fat Dog Imperial Stout is like a World’s Strongest Man contestant. The beer pours s rich deep, dark brown and has a inviting rich tan/oatmeal head. The taste of roasted coffee and chocolate just explodes in your mouth and coats your throat with utter scrumptiousness! It is one of the perfect dessert beers and accompanies brownies very well, and Reese’s Pieces! A stout for stout lovers, one of the greatest brews in the style; serious stout. I believe the finest brew that Stoudt’s offers. One of the beers I will be enjoying by the fire at our family’s house near the Christmas tree.
