| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 18, 2007 Bottled version from BA fat dog vs. regular fat dog. Well this one wasn’t the projected champion, and did not take home the title of Fattest Fat Dog, but it did put up a good fight. Roastier malt aroma and grahm crackers but light as well. Malty rich dark burnt chocolate flavors with a long chocolate finish. Of course it doesn’t have the flavors and complexities that a bourbon barrel gives it, and truly this dog may not have had a fighting chance from the start. but it came out swinging and put out a good show, none the less. drewbeerme (2306), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 17, 2007 12oz bottle. fat dog vs. barrel aged fat dog. fat dog first. pour dark (BA version is pitch black) with nice tan head. aroma pretty weak for an imperial, some oats, raisons, and mild bakers chocolate. taste has very balance but muted chocolate, oats, good roastyness, pretty smoky, and dark fruits. mild alcohol presence in finish. mouthfeel is rich and smooth. gets much better as it warms up. just a little rough and not complex enough to be great. bb (2930), Martinez, California, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2007 Very dark, nearly pitch black, topped by a dense two finger head. The foam settles very slowly to a thick cap, leaving behind a solid sheet of lace.
Smell; very roasty, and with chocolate coffee. It also smells a little bit sweet, and it’s a bit on the vinous side. But overall it’s a little subdued.
Taste; the roasted malts really stand out up front, followed by chocolate and coffee, and there’s a little bit of a cola flavor going on as well. The sweetness from the cola flavors actually blend well with the dark fruit flavors that are present. There’s just slight presence of alcohol in the finish, but I don’t think it hurts it at all. Very smooth and full bodied mouthfeel, with a very good drinkability.
Overall a very good stout, Imperial or otherwise. Very complex and interesting, without being overpowering. I’d keep this on hand regularly if it was available near me.
