Commercial Description:
This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

Pours black with very little to no head, what there is is light tan. Creamy smooth taste. Nice balance between hops and malt good coffee overtones at first but not overpowering..

Bottle at Brickskeller in DC. Black color with a medium tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, and some dark fruit notes. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and oatmeal. Alcohol well-hidden and palate fairly creamy from the oatmeal, but this seems a little weak for a RIS.

12oz bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is of oat, chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruit, and coffee. Taste is of oat, chocolate, dark fruit, coffee, and alcohol. Has a base of dry, grainy malt. Lingering taste of chocolate. Slight alcohol burn in the finish. Body is too light for a stout, and overly carbonated. Motuhfeel is very thin. A surprisingly weak and thin beer.

Sticky head, small bubbles. Hop spice right up front, but noble, a touch of spice and some mint. Chocolate covered raisins and warm cookies emerge from the hop perfume. As is with most of Stoutdt’s offerings, reserved, refined, and structured. Very smooth texture is nicely complimented with a nice touch of smoked malt that adds an exotic touch to the cocoa as well as harmony with the hop. Espresso and hop spice linger on the gums and roof of the mouth as cookie dough floats throw the olfactories. Complex and tasty. Cellar for up to a year. Savor after dinner like a Petite Sirah. 93

Pours black with a tiny light brown head. Nice, rich, roasty aroma, some chocolate, light coffee, and a touch of dark fruit, but more on the roasty side. Really nice palate, full and rich. Up in your face flavor right away, with some bitter chocolate, andnoticeable alcohol right up front. The finish turns to roasty malt, and sweet dark molasses. Really sharp on the palate. Almost stinging in a way. Really solid imperial stout. Another quality brew from these guys.

12oz bottle pours deep brown with a big chocolate, malt, and some smoke. Bit of coffee in the background. Very smooth beer. Bit of bitterness but not much. Nice balance, but nothing over the top.

Smells like pine needles, dark malts, alcohol is well covered. Pours black with thin tan head. Refreshing american stout. Doesn’t stand out to me as amazing or anything.

Bottle. Appearance: Pours slick black with a thin ring on the head. Aroma: Roasted malts, chocolate and coffee notes. Flavor: The taste is very similar to the aroma with a bread-like finish. Palate: Medium body with a smooth and oily texture. Overall Impression: The body is not as full as other imperial stouts, but I didn’t find that to be a negative.
