Commercial Description:
This unique ale merges the smooth and complex richness of an Oatmeal Stout with the assertive hoppiness of Imperial Stout. Fat Dog has an inviting silky-black color, a prominent roasted malt character, and a chocolatey, coffee-like finish.

On Tap at Julios Spring Beer Festival. Light aroma of dark chocolate and molasses. Pour of deep dark black, with a ruby glint and a head of tan. Flavor of long lasting chocolate wafers and a little bit of smoked salt. It has some decent body, but to me lacks a lot of character. I didn’t know this was an Imperial Stout when I had it. Seems a little thin. But, in the back there’s noticable alcohol that perks things up. Possible re-rate.

Had the required colr and the certain amount of thickness. A very standard type true to style and with a sweetness that was not overpowering.

Bottle. Black colour with a medium brown head. Light sweet vanilla, coffee aroma and taste, dusty. Medium body with a light dry, light alcoholic finish. 6-4-6-3-15. Re-rate 7-4-7-4-17 Bottle. A black beer with a medium brown head. The aroma is of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and oat, so is the taste, but hoppy. Medium to full body with a dry finish.

12 oz bottle, 2005 version. Rich chocolate –syrupy-licorice and then oatmeal aroma. Black color with brown head. Taste is smooth creamy toffee and then grainy oatmeal then roasted dry chocolate malts followed by some hop bitterness. A full flavor indeed. No alcohol present in the first 6 oz. and just a hint later. The body is real good. I can’t find any faults with this beer. Nice job. Will definitely have it again.

Pours very dark with noticeable carbonation, and a dissapating tan head. Very pleasent aroma of chocolate and coffee and starts out with pleasent choco-coffee flavors, then is quickly overtaken by a rusty, acidic twang that clings to the palate and gets stronger the more of this you drink. I would recommend drinking this with an orange slice with which to clear the palate after pouring out.

Tap @ Stoudt’s. Black w good lasting tan head. Creamy dark roast malt, rich & sweet, chocolate & nice hop flavor & bitterness. Complex, high quality in this rather cordial/ liquer tasting brew. Nice moderately bitter finish. Alcohol was noticable but fit in well. If it was less sweet it would have been into the low 4s. Just into full bodied. Very nice after dinner drink. Very delicious. 4/12/08. I’m dropping his down .1 to 3.8. Nice stout but not imperial to me. Too thin. Well into medium bodied.
