Commercial Description:
The darkest of the beers we make, this imperial-style stout has a full body, a rich hearty dark-chocolate taste and a coffee-like finish. Its surprisingly smooth drinkability is enhanced by the careful blending of the finest English Kent Golding and Fuggle hops.

Sweet and rough smoke flavor, very dry and coarse, with a dull palate and an alcoholic bite at the end. Smokey chocolateness abounds, with some sharp hop flavor right at the end.

Bottle. Rich and complex aroma. Opaque, very effervescent. Slight cherries, roasted coffee. Well balanced but with a thin mouthfeel. Decent.

750 ML bottle, vintage data 9/30/03 drank on 12/6/03. Brown/black color with a nice tan head, excellent lacing. Rich chocolate aroma with hints of milk. Creamy mouthfeel, starts lightly bitter and ends a bit sweet. An excellent stout, but it is not an imperial stout.

Nearly opaque with reddish highlights, Large creamy tan head with above average lace. The aroma was full bittersweet chocolate, molasses, nutty, caramel, and coffee combonation. Some smoke and wood, earthy yeast esters also found on the nose. The taste started quite sweet, lots of mocha. Some undertone of aromatic hops and bitterness, but really laid back. Acidic milky and coffee twangy on the finish. This medium to full bodied brew was surprising dry and lively on the palate, I was expecting something more creamy. Alcohol competely hidden. A nice stout that leans towads the sweet stout side of the genre than the dry roasted side.

I would not consider this an Imperial Stout, more of a sweet stout. Very dak in color, little head. Dark roasted malt aroma with hint of chocolate. Smooth taste but slightly watery. Finish was dry and without any excitement. Good easy drinking stout.

(champagne sized bottle) choclate and roasted nutty aroma; black color with good tan head; sweet classic stout type flavor; slightly watery; not as rich of mouthfeel as some stouts - good ABV for a stout

Poured a dark black with a nice retaining tan head. The taste was dry, yet substantial, and the finish was coffeeish and chocolately.

This beer pours a rich chestnut brown color topped by a solid dark tan head. Strong roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee notes in the aroma are enticing. The taste exhibits the strong malt flavors with a touch of sweetness. This is followed by a bit of caramel and dark chocolate. The finish has a bit of a mocha-java taste, combined with a nice finish. This is really an enjoyable beer. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but the drinkability is excellent, maybe partly because of the thinner mouthfeel. A very solid offering from Stoudt's, and typical of their beers: nothing that knocks you out, but nothing sub-par either.
