Brown/black color with a nice tan head, excellent lacing. Rich chocolate aroma with hints of milk. Creamy mouthfeel, starts lightly bitter and ends a bit sweet. The aroma was full bittersweet chocolate, molasses, nutty, caramel, and coffee combonation. Some smoke and wood, earthy yeast esters also found on the nose. The taste started quite sweet, lots of mocha. Some undertone of aromatic hops and bitterness, but really laid back. Acidic milky and coffee twangy on the finish. This medium to full bodied brew was surprising dry and lively on the palate, I was expecting something more creamy. Alcohol competely hidden. Strong roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee notes in the aroma are enticing. The taste exhibits the strong malt flavors with a touch of sweetness. This is followed by a bit of caramel and dark chocolate. The finish has a bit of a mocha-java taste, combined with a nice finish. This is really an enjoyable beer. The mouthfeel is a bit thin, but the drinkability is excellent, maybe partly because of the thinner mouthfeel. A very solid offering from Stoudt's, and typical of their beers: nothing that knocks you out, but nothing sub-par either.
