Aroma has a slight chocolate and roast malt to it. Flavor is nothing special really. I'd prefer it to be a little stronger, but theres a small aftertaste that is quite nice. GIves the beer a nice warming quality Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 29, 2003 Pours with a black body topped by a medium thick to thick tan head with some lacing. Slightly sweet and slightly roasty aroma with notes of coffee, chocolate and licorice. Slightly swet yet bitter roasty coffee malt flavor with notes of chocolate and a bitter sweet coffeeish finish. Medium to full bodied, slightly watery(?) and tingly. notalush (2669), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 20, 2003 Decent stout appearance, though lacking in the kind of head one might expect - huge coffee aroma - flavor of bitter sweet cocoa, even a hint of caramel, and of course coffee - good, but not stand-out. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA

Goes down like a porter. Not as big a flavour as expected. roomtempbeer (185), Franklin, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Aug 25, 2003 Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a dark black liquid that light can not penetrate with small/medium dark caramel colored head that crackles and pops like rice krispies as if the beer is chemically reacting with the glass until the head dissipates to nothing. Aroma is a medium to strong hop stench (closer to medium) covering an underlying alcohol and maybe vanilla. Flavor is a small to medium (closer to small) hop followed by a smallish roasted coffee ending. Not a great smell, but a better taste at least - good enough to at least finish drinking. Sampled at 71 degrees Fahrenheit. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 24, 2003 Updated: Dec 29, 2003This brew poured a small head of light brown colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a opaque dark black brown colored body with no visible carbonated. It had a nice caramel malt vinuous aroma and a smooth initial mild coffee mouthfeel with a bitter finish. Its also had a nice stout like coffee flavor with malt and some roasted notes. A very nice stout that I would like to try again someday. ConiseurofBeer (241), Downingtown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2003 Choclate flavors with strong coffee overtones. A very light stout almost no hops at all. Good stout specially since it was 104 degrees while I was in Texas drinking it.
