| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2003 Dark brown with a big brown head. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Flavor of roast and chocolate. This would fit in better in the dry stout catagory. And it would be a very good dry stout, but it is pretty lacking as an Imperial. boto (1345), Granby, Connecticut, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 5, 2003 Draught: The beer is a very, very dark red. A bit of a tan head. Rich aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Very similar tastes. I agree, it is more along the lines of a Dry Stout as opposed to an Imperial, but very good none the less. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2003 "Frank" hit the nail on the head; this beer tastes like a Dry Stout (ie. Guiness Extra Stout), roasted malt flavor and has a balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. Frank (1071), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2003 I don't know if I'd classify this as an imperial stout. Reminds me more of Guinness Extra Stout than anything. Nice dark color and a good tan head in a dark bar. Mild aroma. Dark chocolate and coffey flavor. A nice balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. freekyp (905), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2003 Pours tar black with a large, lasting khaki head. No lacing. When held up to a bright halogen bulb, the slightly hazy ruby hue creeps into the picture.
The aroma is unique for a stout as most of Stoudts beers are unique in some way. This black brew smells of chocolate buttermilk and weak coffee. Toasted pistachios enter the picture, then notes of vanilla and then blueish green, well-used port-a-potty deodorant liquid seeps into the nose. Reminds me of a piss break in the parking lot at a WVU Mountaineer Football tailgate. I'm sure folks from Lincoln, Happy Valley, Anne Arbor and any construction site know this aroma well. Call me crazy, but the aroma brings back good memories of Fall weekends in Morgantown, WV.
The flavor is a bit thin, but has its moments. Vanilla, milk chocolate and weak coffee up front. Lightly bitter and moderately citrusy hops on the backside. Just a touch too thin. Full-bodied with lively carbonation and a creamy mouthfeel.
Lengthy, bitter, astringent, dry finish. The acohol isn't extremely high, but is completely hidden througout.
Reminds me of Fish Tale Poseiden, but doesn't quite match it. Still, a world class brew that must be tried. Underrated!

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 26, 2003 Pours a beautiful opaque black color with a light, brown head. The aroma is pretty good, but not quite imperial in nature. Loads of chocolate and nicely roasted, but not much fruit or vinous character. Beautifully thick and full in the mouth, it produces great flavors of chocolate and roasted grains. There is still not much vinous character, which is unfortunately, as I think that added element would take this beer to the next level. Right now its closer to the Big Bear Black Stout. It's good, but it may not really be an imperial stout. stephen (308), California, USA
