Commercial Description:
The darkest of the beers we make, this imperial-style stout has a full body, a rich hearty dark-chocolate taste and a coffee-like finish. Its surprisingly smooth drinkability is enhanced by the careful blending of the finest English Kent Golding and Fuggle hops.

Very dark out of the bottle with faint deep red hues when held up to the light. Lasting head that reminded me of a root beer float. Sweet, roasted grain nose. Very creamy mouthfeel. Very easy drinking with flavors of sweetened coffee and chocolate malts. Really doesn't feel like an imperial stout and frankly isn't really remarkable, but it is tastey.

The fat dog stout is just plain genius...can't be the PA brewers...we have victory, stoudts, yuenglin, penn, pittsburgh brewing, latrobe...the list goes on!

Delicious rich flavor, lightly smokey, dark chocolate and hoppy perfumes. Not an imperial stout but it's delicious anyhow. I wish there were more texture and body but it's all good just the same.

Vintage date: 8/26/03... Opaque black, creamy tan head. Mild cocoa, light fruity aroma. Sweet chocolate, roasted malt taste. Slightly carbonated, but a nice creamy finish. Not an imperial stout by any means, but exactly what I was looking for tonight.

This is more like a super chocolatey porter. Bone white head, thinnish, loads of chocolate malts, sweet, milky, quite subtle hop action. Good and quality, but not aggressive, if that's what you are looking for.

best beer i've had by this brewer, though thought it tasted like more of an oatmeal stout, or a full bodied not too dry dry stout. kinda like the shakespeare stout. anyway, on cask at the sharp edge in pittsburgh. very smooth and balanced and nice. yay!

Poured black with a thick tan head that didn't last. Aroma was mildly sweet with coffee. Medium bodied mouthfeel. Coffee and chocolate on the tounge, with just a touch sweetness. A decent stout, but by no means was this an Imperial Stout.

765ml capped bottle. Vintage Date 4/3/03Pour was overcarbonated. Almost all foam in the first glass. This happened with the IPA as I recall also. Once it settled down it left a normal size tan head on top of adark black body. Aroma is chocolate and soft with a detectable hop presence and a seltzer like note from the carbonation I guess. Body was medium to full and creamy but overcarbonated. Flavor has good chocolate notes but not much else outstanding. Finish is slightly dry. I'd like to try a better sample one day.
